Call of Lightning

49. The Journey Continues (Chapter One)

Ha ha ha ha.

Kenan laughed heartily. Kenan was now chatting with Sadewa, the boss of Mega Multi. They were chatting backstage. Kenan burst out laughing backstage after finishing his speech about being chosen to find a company representative to manage all of the company's CSR programs.

Sadewa's secretary couldn't fathom why the boss had chosen this young man. The young man wasn't even polite to his boss, Sadewa. The two of them seemed close, and Feri, the secretary, couldn't fathom where they met and how they became so close. Before waking from his coma, Boss Sadewa was known for being strict, disciplined, and unconcerned with anyone but business.

During Sadewa's coma, Feri had been the entire company's manager. He was fiercely loyal to Sadewa, yet he still wondered why this young man was chosen without any selection process.

Sadewa, seeing his secretary's astonishment, let Kenan laugh and then patted Feri on the shoulder.

"You don't need to be surprised, Fer. He helped me wake up from my coma because he found the ring I threw away, a gift from my mother. He woke me up with the ring's magical powers. And... thank you for taking care of the company all this time."

Sadewa smiled once more at Feri.

His boss had changed; he smiled often now. And one more thing: why were there words about the ring's magic that woke someone from a coma? Was this an illusion, or was his boss hypnotized?

"Could it be that you were hypnotized, Boss?"

Feri's astonished face made Kenan and Sadewa laugh even more, to the point of tears.

Earlier, on stage, Kenan had given a short speech about his plan to manage the CSR funds of all Sadewa companies. Sadewa wanted to test Kenan's courage. Kenan's short speech, essentially, said he would use the CSR funds to travel throughout Indonesia, and perhaps even the world, to help victims of bullying, both in schools and workplaces. Kenan would focus and dedicate himself to preventing bullying in all sectors, especially schools.

And Sadewa fully supported everything Kenan planned to do. With that, Kenan officially worked under Sadewa's command, distributing all CSR funds to humanitarian causes.

"That girl named Luna really cares about you. She always comes and gives me those letters."

Ghina pointed to Luna, who was emerging from the crowd with her father. Kenan knew now. All this time, he'd assumed no one cared about him and that everyone despised his existence. It turned out it was all just his wild imagination, and now everyone idolizes her and was the talk of the town. Luna, she was still worried about him and gave him a letter, asking Kenan to be strong and brave in facing reality.

The world isn't as small as he thought, Kenan smiled.

"Yes, Mom, let's go home."

"Yes, Kenan. Oh yeah, how do you know the big boss? You even got a job now. I find that very strange."

"Oh, that. Remember when I had to go save someone? Yes, I was saving him. I found the ring his mother gave him that he lost, so I had to find it so he could forgive her."

The mother frowned, deep in thought.

"Come on, Mom, let's go home. I'm hungry."

Kenan turned the handlebars of his motorcycle, but the sound of footsteps approached him quickly. It was Luna.

"Ke... Kenan."

Kenan was forced to lean the motorcycle back down, nervous about facing the woman he had once dreamed of. And that face was the face of Kalya, the Elf princess.

Luna greeted Ghina and Kenan, her father waiting in the car. They chatted briefly. Of course, they hadn't seen each other in a long time, and had even met a few days ago in a road accident. The conversation felt very casual.

"Does Kenan have time... I want to talk."

Kenan thought for a moment, and his mother nodded.

"It's nothing important. I just want to interview you about your efforts to recover from your slump. I apologize if this is presumptuous. However, this is important in relation to my efforts to solve social problems. I majored in social studies and want to dedicate myself to social good. I ask that you be willing, and this is crucial to the current social crisis. If you are willing, just set a time."

"Yes, I am willing."

Luna frowned, and it enhanced her beauty. Kenan smiled, already beginning to make peace with the situation. Luna also didn't expect Kenan's answer to be so quick.

The two then parted ways and exchanged phone numbers.

"She is very beautiful and kind," Ghina said as she rode on the street with her son.

"Don't think too much, Mom."

"I'm just speaking as a woman. She is a good woman."

Kenan fell silent, and his mother smiled.

At the edge of a small artificial lake in the city park. Kenan and Luna sat on a park bench, gazing out at a small lake.

“That's how it is... I'm trying to make peace with everything. Fighting anger, shame, and weakness all at once. It's hard, but Mom always helps me get back up. When I realize there's a family who loves us and hopes we get better, that's how hard I try to heal and not let Mom cry again.”

Luna wrote down everything Kenan told her. Back in school, they weren't even close at all. However, it was as if they had become new friends who were open with each other.

“You know what, Kenan? I majored in social studies because I've been watching you all this time. I try to feel what you feel. My heart is moved so that no one else will experience something like yours again. And... we're friends. I hope you recover and become a normal person. If that works, then others who experience the same thing will surely be able to recover mentally too.”

“I know... I've read all your letters. Thank you for your concern, and you're the only one who cares among our schoolmates.”

The wind blew.

"Oh yeah, how do you know Mr. Sadewa? He's the richest man in the country. So... when did you two meet?" Luna asked enthusiastically.

"Oh yeah, you remind me of Mr. Pedang... er, I mean Mr. Sadewa. I'm going to form a volunteer team, though the volunteers will receive a salary. I'll travel throughout the city and villages, bringing messages to stop bullying in schools and workplaces. Mr. Sadewo supports all my programs, so... would... Would Luna like to join our team?"

Kenan found the perfect team member: a social justice advocate.

"I'd love to join, and I've already started working on my final project on social change in schools. So, I'm ready!"

Very quickly, Kenan smiled.

"I have an appointment with a student who was bullied after his parents reported him. He won't be going to school for two weeks. Would you like to accompany me?" Luna asked.

Kenan agreed. "Okay, I've already told Mom to come home in the afternoon."

Luna gave Kenan the address on her phone, and they each took their own vehicles to the location Luna indicated.

"Kenan..."

Luna's voice made Kenan stop before heading to his parked motorcycle.

"What's wrong, Luna?"

"Sorry... I want to be honest. I joined the team you formed. Actually, I also wanted to write your story... ever since you refused to leave the house and interact. I wanted to follow your story until you could rise from your slump. So... until now, I will follow your journey wherever you go."

"Of course, Luna. You can write about me, as long as you want."

They parted ways, and Kenan felt that Luna was very similar to Princess Kalya. When Aeera's team left him, Princess Kalya returned and fought alongside him. They were very similar.
