Legend of the Lightning Strike
22. Surprise Attack
Someone was seen approaching Gayatri, Lao, and Barsha again. They were on guard, but as soon as they got closer, they knew it was Aji. Now they were on guard, watching for any movement coming their way. They were already running low on spiritual energy.
Surviving was a prerequisite for passing this test.
"Where are you, Aji?" Barsha spoke rather loudly. Barsha felt a little annoyed when Aji suddenly jumped and disappeared into the mist. Then, just as suddenly, he returned. Aji approached his comrades.
"I was just making sure I attacked one of the attackers disguised as a participant. I can confirm it."
"What do you mean?" Barsha became curious.
The clink of weapons clashing and the clash of energies could be heard here and there. Even through the mist, the rumbling sounds of battle were still heard.
Aji looked at Gayatri, "I've already taken him down. What do you distinguish from his energy?"
Gayatri looked back at Aji. She also sensed the rapid energy Aji used when attacking the disguised assailant. One blow and the disguised assailant fell. She could also sense Aji's energy, so she understood exactly what was happening.
"The energy was indeed confirmed by my eyes. However, everything was hidden in a dark fog. I could sense with my eyes the same energy that was indeed a disguised participant or examiner from the assassin group."
Aji understood that the thick energy fog was indeed obstructing vision. If you attacked randomly, it could hit other participants. That was very dangerous.
Aji had an idea.
"Draw it on the floor. Mark clearly the movements of everyone you see, as well as the attackers' energy. We can defend ourselves and launch long-range attacks!"
Aji's words confused all his colleagues. However, Gayatri simply trusted Aji. She understood that Aji possessed an advantage that many people, this mysterious man, had yet to discover.
Gayatri bent down, conjured an energy knife, and drew a large circle. It was a circular image of the entire circular floor of the Colosseum. After that, Gayatri made a small hole and a dot with her energy knife.
The number of marks corresponded to the number of people remaining in this second test, of course, excluding those who had fallen and been thrown through the Colosseum doors.
Aji observed all the dots Gayatri had made with her energy knife. The two people standing there, Barsha and Lao, didn't yet understand what Aji was planning.
Aji sat down and watched intently. Gayatri had made 125 dots, and she had also made four dots in the center.
Gayatri pointed to the four dots, "This is us. We're to the left of the center dot, not exactly in the center."
Aji began to understand what Gayatri had drawn.
"There are three incoming attacks from the right side!" Gayatri's eyes lit up, and she explained that they were energy the same color as the assassins.
"Lao and Barsha, help us for a moment. Hold them off, Gayatri, and I are concentrating on developing a strategy!"
Lao nodded in agreement. Barsha, slightly annoyed, became curious about what Aji was planning. The two then blocked and prepared for the three incoming attacks, striking with their wooden swords.
Barsha blocked two attacks, and Lao blocked one. The clash resumed, with attacks from the right and left sides countering and attacking.
Tring! Klang!
Aji and Gayatri remained focused, pointing at each other. Lao and Barsha protected them both. Gayatri depicted each person's movements in detail. Her eyes were truly able to distinguish the colors of each warrior within the energy mist.
Aji was greatly helped and began to see things.
"Help me!" A participant approached Aji's group, his cheek showing a blow and visible bruises. "I got separated from my group and ran into the mist!"
"Come here quickly! We'll protect you!" Lao stepped forward and grabbed the man, shielding him from the attackers chasing him from behind. Lao repelled the attacker's attack. The attacker looked annoyed, then jumped back into the mist and disappeared again.
Lao grabbed the injured participant's arm. Lao carried him into his team area and approached Aji and the others.
"It's okay to bring him near us, right? We fellow warriors should help each other," Lao hoped his teammates would feel the same way.
Lao helped the injured warrior, "Are you hurt?"
"It's okay, just a surprise attack. Thank you for helping me join here," the man said.
Aji stood up and approached Lao. Aji's hand reached out to the man, as if to examine the warrior's wound.
"It's okay, just a minor injury. Thank you," the warrior seemed embarrassed by Aji's actions.
Damn!
The warrior who had just arrived wasn't meant for Aji to help, but rather to quickly incapacitate him. Aji struck him in the back of the neck. He immediately fell unconscious.
"What did you do, Aji!" Lao protested Aji's actions. Was Aji suspicious of the warrior, or did he not want the team to be burdened with an injured warrior?
"Lao. Ask your own brother."
Aji's explanation confused Lao even more. An energy appeared, a rope or scarf coming from the mist. Lao was on guard, but Aji blocked it with his arm, signaling Lao to stay out of the way.
Sure enough, the cloth extended and, with energy, wrapped around the warrior who had been knocked unconscious by Aji's blow. His body was pulled into the darkness of the mist and gone, who knows where.
"Explain to me, Gayatri?" Lao, curious, asked his brother.
Gayatri looked at her brother. "The warrior Aji hit earlier was from the attack team, disguised as a participant. I've been marking him since he came to us."
Lao didn't dare argue any further and tried to accept what Aji had done. Otherwise, the man he was trying to help might have paralyzed him. Lao should be grateful to Aji.
At the end of the steps where the examiners were, Gonan seemed to be observing the entire scene within the mist of energy, though he couldn't observe everything. Many of the participants had fallen, and he could see that there were not many left. Maybe only about 50 remained.
Very quickly, they couldn't hold out in the fog. How could they fight the Dark Army if they couldn't even defend against the fog obscuring their vision?
Someone suddenly appeared near Leader Gonan, reporting something. He whispered to Leader Gonan some test results and reports.
"Interesting!" Leader Gonan said. He had received reports that a team had identified the attackers posing as participants. This had been confirmed, meaning they could clearly distinguish between the real participants and the disguised attackers.
Gonan felt the need to give the team an even more rigorous test. The time remaining for the second test was also running out. It seemed that with the limited time left, a special test was necessary. Gonan smiled.
"All attack teams, focus on the target team you reported earlier. I'll be watching from here."
Leader Gonan smiled, and the reporter disappeared, like a light bulb going out.
