Naura's Tears
14. Arriving and Surprising
Sunday arrived again.
As usual, Adam was enjoying the beauty of Lake Kenanga. Syarif drove him by motorbike. Adam kept smiling all the way. At Adam's house, Halimah cleaned the house, as everyone knew that Sunday was a special day for Adam, filled with memories, and he didn't entertain guests at home.
Lately, villagers around Adam's village had been lining up every Monday through Saturday. Even when they were just aching and itching, they came because it was more convenient and didn't require a doctor. They sometimes came even for minor ailments, especially since Halimah always helped anyone who came seeking help with her tear therapy.
Halimah simply didn't want to disappoint those who came to her house seeking treatment. And Adam allowed it with a nod of his head, despite his deep pain, tormented by love, but he still seemed to offer kindness to anyone who needed his help. Adam's face looked happy, sitting on the wooden chair, his legs occasionally swinging back and forth. He stared at the clear water, hit by the dazzling sunlight. There, a face appeared in Adam's memory. The face of the one he loved, Naura.

On the other side.
Naura suddenly sneezed, as if dust had suddenly invaded her nose, making her unable to hold it in.
Hatchih!
Strange! It's not the rainy season, so why is she suddenly sneezing? What? Naura's thoughts wandered elsewhere, and she found the end of her imagination, and it was the face of a man who had once been close to her heart, perhaps even to this day, she still remembered him. Adam.
Naura neatly put away her folded clothes and arranged them in their appropriate outfits. Having finished several piles, she began to move the clothes to their proper places on the closet shelves. Suddenly, she remembered someone she once loved dearly: Adam. For some reason, it was as if her name was being called. Even though they've been married for over two years, their feelings for Adam haven't completely faded. Even when it comes to money, she always gets everything she wants from him.
The love that had been ingrained since childhood, and they always smiled together. The love that had grown was hard to forget. Things had changed now; Naura was married to Sandi. Initially, she didn't love Sandi at all, but now she's trying her hardest to forget Adam and accept him. But it's difficult for Naura.
After putting away her folded clothes, Naura sat on the edge of the spring bed. She stared out the open window, the natural scenery: the blue sky, the drifting clouds, the trees, the tall houses—all of which reminded her of her former life in the village. Of course, her beautiful stories with Adam always came to mind.
Naura's eyes continued to gaze up at the blue sky. Even though she lived in the city, she always received news of Adam in her village. Adam was sick and had become an icon for the sick, who came to her house and asked for medicine from her tears to cure their ailments. Indeed, Adam's story went viral and became a hot topic. Naura even followed the news and asked anyone who knew about it.
Deep down, Naura still loved Adam. Adam couldn't lie to her.
At that moment...
Tears suddenly fell from Naura's eyes. Yes, the moment she left, Adam was a time when she had to sacrifice for her family. She had to be the one sacrificed in her family. Why? Of course, because of her father's debt to the Rodin family, Sandi's father.
Ridden with debt, Hasan, Naura's father's rice mill, went bankrupt. Their debts were everywhere, so they borrowed 500 million rupiah from Rodin. This money saved them from debt and the threat of prison. However, it wasn't free and, of course, came with high interest rates.
Sandi, who had long loved Naura, asked her father for permission to marry the woman he desired. If Naura didn't comply, they would demand the money, and Hasan would surely be ruined by the debt. At that moment, Hasan pleaded with his daughter, saying he had no other way out, especially since Hasan didn't like Adam.
Ultimately, Naura became a financial burden on her family. For the sake of her family's survival, she agreed to marry Sandi. Gradually, Naura made the decision to love her husband wholeheartedly.
Unfortunately, to this day, she still hasn't been able to truly and completely love him. Furthermore, he has bad habits. He sometimes comes home late, and he often goes to bars and comes home smelling of alcohol.
When they first got married, Naura felt like a queen and was well-served by her husband. She felt loved and given everything she asked for, but gradually, changes began to appear in her husband. Could his love for her simply fade away just because he had her? After all, there are so many beautiful women in the world that he can find them everywhere.
Naura dismissed her doubts about her husband. She had committed to being a faithful wife and to loving Sandi completely, no matter what. As for Adam, let him be buried deep in the ocean of her soul, and she would never again bring up memories of him. Let him be, and let him remain only a pure love, beautifully preserved in her deepest memories.
Sigh. Naura exhaled deeply and quickly, as if wanting to release the heavy burden weighing her down, or as if she wanted to banish all the problems that plagued her.
But the more she tried to forget Adam, the more deeply imprinted his face became. She had heard that Adam now had a lot of money because he had helped so many people. Furthermore, Adam continued to be ill and hurt. Was it all because of her? Naura felt incredibly guilty, but simply visiting him was like the moon trying to outshine the sun; it was impossible.
She was already someone else's wife, and according to social and religious traditions, it was forbidden for her to go out to meet another man without her husband's permission. Naura longed to see Adam, even if only to see him. But she was also helpless.
Besides thinking about Adam, Naura also found it difficult to think about her husband, Sandi. Her affection for him was very different from when they first met. Now, Sandi seemed to only make small talk when he came home, even if only to provide for his family as a married couple. Furthermore, he rarely wanted to accompany her, chat, or go out like he used to.
What was wrong with her husband?
Ah! Perhaps it was just work that made Sandi do this. The exhaustion of his work had made his mind so consumed by work that he forgot about her. Clearly, Naura now had to focus on being a loving wife, no matter what, and she had to forget about Adam.
"No!"
The voice from the bedroom door startled Naura. Yes, it was the voice of Aunt Fatma, who took care of her house and her husband, Sandi. When her husband wasn't home, Naura could only confide in Aunt Fatma; she could fill in for Naura's mother. Occasionally, Naura's mother and father also visited.
"What's wrong, Bi?"
Naura hurried to open the door and saw Bi Fatma staring at her and bowing slightly.
"Aden called you in the living room. It seems like something's up, Miss."
Naura smiled at Bi Fatma. Perhaps her husband, Sandi, would start a good relationship with her again. She was sure that Sandi was still a good husband, and Naura had also decided to be his complete and sincere love.
"Okay, Bi, Naura will be out soon. Naura should change first, Bi." Naura hurried back into her room and opened her closet to find the best outfit she thought was best. She picked out clothes, of course, to please her husband. At that moment, Bi Fatma said goodbye first.
Found you!
Naura quickly changed into her best clothes, the ones her husband would love, of course. She put on her best headscarf as well, then prepared to go out. Naura descended the stairs enthusiastically, her smile widening to greet her husband. A few turns later, and she would soon arrive. Their house was luxurious, with three floors.
Upon arriving in the living room, Naura's eyes were a little startled to see that her husband wasn't alone, but with another figure beside him. A woman. And, the woman had shoulder-length hair and was beautiful with seductive makeup.
Naura stood frozen for a moment, standing in front of her husband and the woman sitting next to him.
"My wife... sit here," Sandi gestured with his left hand to the sofa next to him. Slightly hesitant and confused, Naura slowly approached her husband and sat on his left side.
About a few seconds after Naura sat down, the silence was broken, shaking the room.
"Naura... you're getting married again, and you have to agree?"
It was like a bolt of lightning striking the earth with utter destruction, exploding the ground and rumbling throughout the universe. That was what Naura felt at that moment. Her soul was electrified upon hearing the news directly from the mouth of her husband, who had once spoken of his loyalty until death and his love for her entire life.
What had happened to his former promises and his words of loyalty?
Naura's lips were stiff and numb, unable to make a sound even though she wanted to scream, and the world witnessed how she, too, would now be tortured by the woman who would accompany her husband to bed. Sharing a husband was a thought that had never crossed Naura's mind, not even a flicker.
However, fate was fate, reality was reality, and no matter how bitter, it was a reality that had to be faced.
