Naura's Tears
17. Trapped in Love
Diandra's smile blossomed. The face she gazed upon was so refreshing, even cooler than the gentle breeze at Lake Kenanga. Even though his gaze was blank, staring at the water and merely smiling, Diandra somehow enjoyed looking at that face.
"Are you happy, Adam?"
Diandra's voice was soft, her face very close to Adam's gaunt face. Adam didn't answer, just a smile as his answering expression and a mere blink of his eyes.
"Hmm... Aren't you bored, Adam?"
Again, Diandra asked Adam, not caring whether he answered or not. It was as if she wanted to fulfill her promise that she would be the one to be with him. Adam, hurt by his love, and she, free from the darkness of her world.
Maybe they were meant to be. Indeed, Diandra believed that everything was arranged by God, the creator of this world.
No matter what, Diandra somehow began to like the skinny, sick man. The angel who led her to see the beauty of the world.
One more thing. Diandra had promised to accompany Adam until he recovered from the pain of his powerless love.
"Adam…" Diandra said enthusiastically, sitting next to him, joining him in gazing at Lake Kenanga, allowing her imagination to swirl. Before, when she couldn't see, she imagined what she heard. Now, she imagined what she thought and used her eyes to describe it.
Now, her imagination felt complete, and she could clearly visualize the moving clouds forming beautifully in the sky.
"It's okay if you don't answer me. I may be a stranger to you, Adam, but you're like the Lord of the world to me. From you, I've found a new life filled with color and light. Hmm…" Diandra said, seemingly alone and unconcerned, sighing again.
As if she were talking to herself, there was no response from Adam. But Diandra didn't care; she just wanted to talk freely, as freely as she could now enjoy the beautiful scenery. "But what about my vow when I was going to heal with your tears, Adam? I swore that I would marry you. What if we get married in the future? Will you let me tell you my story alone?"
It's unclear whether Adam had heard her earlier or not. Diandra felt comfortable telling him anything.
Diandra's legs swayed back and forth as she sat next to Adam. She already understood Adam's story, so she didn't really expect him to answer her every word. However, her mother also told her that, despite his silence, Adam actually listened to what people said to him. "Adam... did you know, all this time I've been living in darkness. I've only listened to stories and imagined what they would look like. Sometimes, my mother would tell me stories about humans. Then, I'd feel myself wondering what humans looked like. All that time, I'd only imagined them with my imagination.
Then: animals, the sky, the sea, clouds, colors. Now, I can see it all. It's all thanks to you, Adam. You're my savior, you're like an angel in my life.
If I recover, then you must recover too. I'll help you recover, and let me marry you, too. I'll take care of you and help you recover."
Diandra seemed to have no shame. It was all new to her. Being close to a man she'd never imagined before. Sharing her story and even being so frank made Diandra burst with happiness. She didn't care whether Adam would accept it or not.
Diandra's long and wide story, told to herself, whether Adam heard it or not, shocked Syarif, and of course, shocked his family, who were standing some distance away. They couldn't do much about Diandra's happiness; she was the one who determined her own life.
Diandra continued to tell her story, and everyone listened intently, not daring to interrupt or interrupt her. She seemed unconcerned, as if she were having a casual conversation with no one in particular.
After a long silence, a voice interrupted Diandra's every word.
"No!"
The firm voice came from Adam's hoarse voice. Diandra was surprised to hear him; he was listening, as she had expected, as he sensed what was around him. It was as if her soul was trapped and shackled in helplessness in the face of his love.
"I will only marry Naura. That's a promise of love," Adam's soft voice could be heard by everyone there.
After saying those words, Adam smiled again and stared at the water splashing in the gentle breeze. His gaze remained focused solely on the smiling face of Adam's imagination. Naura's beautiful smile made his lips curl up involuntarily.
Instead of being disappointed, Diandra felt challenged. Adam was an attractive man, she found. Adam's love was like a boundless ocean, not because of helplessness, but because of the depth of his love.
"Dad... are you and Mom going back to the hotel first, or where are you going? Diandra will stay here for a while to accompany Adam."
Diandra didn't want them to just sit there, listening to her talk alone, and Adam ignoring her. So, she decided not to upset her parents by seeing their daughter ignored by Adam.
Hamid understood what Diandra wanted and agreed, "Okay, my daughter, we'll pick you up later."
Hamid nodded to his wife, signaling that he would let Diandra do what she wanted. However, he asked Fandi to look after Diandra and fulfill her wishes. Hamid, Sarah, and Aunt Jamilah got into the car, and Hamid drove off, leaving them.
Meanwhile, Fandi tried to get along and chat with Syarif under another tree nearby. They engaged in lively conversation while waiting for the two lovebirds who were sitting under the tree on a wooden chair, both smiling with their own imaginations as they gazed at the waters of Lake Kenanga.
"You love that woman named Naura too deeply, Adam. You're trapped in a false love. Hmm... at least that's what I often heard from the love stories in the books Aunt Jamilah read to me when my mother was away. And now I've just learned the truth by watching your story.
Don't you want to create a new story, Adam? Don't you want to try turning over a new leaf like a new, white book, and write your story well?
Ah! That's up to you."
Still, Diandra didn't care and continued telling her story. She hoped Adam would still hear her and that her motoric thoughts would be stirred, even if only a little. Diandra was reminded of the story of a strong stone, but over time, it would be destroyed by the constant drops of water falling on it.
Diandra thought of herself as playing with a doll, talking to herself. Yes, you could say Diandra considered Adam a doll, so she didn't need to feel sad when her words weren't heard or responded to.
The difference was that Adam was listening to her, but he couldn't answer any of her questions. This was because a love so deep had penetrated to the very core of his heart. This intense love had filled his mind with Naura's name. Naura, a woman whose face Diandra had never imagined. Could she be more beautiful than herself?
Impossible! Diandra denied it. Not because she was arrogant, but because beauty wasn't what drove someone to love to the point of pain, like Adam, who was hurt by love.
Adam's love for Naura wasn't about physical things. Diandra knew this; her deep feelings were enough to understand how deeply Adam loved Naura.
The comfort Adam felt when he was with Naura was what Diandar felt, which made Adam love Naura so deeply.
"Your love for Naura isn't about worldly things or beauty. I can understand what you feel, Adam. It's sincere love, and your heart feels that your true happiness lies with Naura."
"It was love that killed you, because you believed your happiness lay solely with Naura. You simply hadn't opened your heart to anything else. The depth of your love caused you to sink too deeply into the abyss of love. I'm sure there will come a time when you will rise above your helplessness toward love. You will rise and open your eyes and heart to the fact that God is truly love. While all of us, humans, are merely weak and helpless creatures."
Diandra remained patient and unconcerned about whether Adam understood her. However, her eyes were caught by a flying creature with colorful wings. The creature perched on a flower near them, near the lake.
The creature was still flapping its beautiful wings even though it was standing on the flower with its feet. The flower was so beautiful, with its numerous petals and their colors perfectly set off the green of the grass. This compelled Diandra to rise from her seat.
She approached the creature; it must be a butterfly. Yes, it must be a butterfly, Diandra assured herself. She sat next to the butterfly, its wings flapping slowly even though it was on a blooming flower. Its two antennae moved; it seemed to be eating. Is that how butterflies eat? They eat flowers?
Diandra chuckled, bathed in the sunlight. Her smile was like that of an angel.
The butterfly seemed startled by the human nearby, and it flew upward. Diandara couldn't keep still; she followed the butterfly as it flew, continuing to... It followed her here and there, even circling the tree and chair where Adam was sitting, but Adam remained silent.
Diandra grew tired of following the butterfly, and it flew away. Diandra let it go, waving goodbye as it flew away.
Diandra, a little exhausted, sat back down next to Adam. Her breaths came in quick, sharp gasps as she exhaled forcefully, and she smiled from the joy of seeing and chasing the butterfly.
"You must be very happy, Miss?"
The voice startled Diandra. Yes, it was Adam's voice, but she couldn't see it. Her eyes remained blank, staring at the lake water. Diandra smiled and returned her gaze straight ahead. The sunlight fell on the lake, its reflection slightly illuminating their faces.
Fate was happening to them, the writing of destiny that had brought them together strangely and magically. Just like life itself, which has been full of miracles from the beginning.

In her reverie, watching the water glisten in the sunlight, she was dazzled, albeit slightly. As her eyes imagined Naura's face in the clear waters of Lake Kenanga, another cheerful woman ran around her chasing butterflies.
Amidst her helplessness and the devastation of her heart and soul, there was a woman who cared for her. Her name was Diandra. Yes, Adam tried to remember the woman who asked for sincerity to accept her tears.
The woman was so polite that she was the only one who wanted to use his tears as medicine, but she had to ask his permission directly, expecting his sincerity. The woman was now chasing butterflies, the beauty of butterflies. The sun's rays, however, couldn't overpower Diandra's alabaster face.
Compared to Naura, Diandra was still more beautiful in terms of her facial features. However, Naura had already captured Adam's entire heart and soul. As Diandra passed Adam's gaze, Adam noticed her bright, clear, flawless face. Her face could be described as a beautiful, luscious angel descended to earth.
Was this God's remedy for Adam, who had endured pain and helplessness over his own body for so long?
Adam still didn't understand. His body felt locked with everything that was Naura, and he desperately wanted to break free from the shackles of that love. However, it was as if a thick wall had blocked all his movements.
He was truly imprisoned.
However, since that woman, Diandra, had entered his sight, it was as if one of the chains restraining his body had been broken. He felt a sense of hope for his helplessness.
But still, Naura occupied his entire soul. His promise to Naura, a promise witnessed by God. That Adam would never marry anyone but Naura, because Adam was created for her.

"Naura, do you see this beautiful flower?" Adam picked a flower on the edge of Lake Kenanga and brought it close to Naura.
"Don't pick it, Adam; you'll ruin it," Naura seemed reluctant.
Adam smiled as he looked at the flower. "Naura, love involves sacrifice. Without sacrifice, love is worthless. Like a butterfly, it must struggle to remain in a cocoon to transform into a butterfly. Therefore," Adam looked at Naura, "I am ready to sacrifice anything to love you forever."
Naura blushed. "Don't say things like that, Adam. You're embarrassing me."
Both of them blushed. The sun warmly embraced them that Sunday.
Adam sat back down next to Naura. "Naura, you know, even if the world were gathered into a bunch of flowers, it still wouldn't be able to beat the beauty of your face, Naura."
"Adam!" Naura screamed and hit Adam's left shoulder. Adam laughed and then smiled as he looked back at the lake.
They both looked back at the water, where Naura was still blushing and Adam was still smiling happily.
"Adam, will you promise me?" Naura plucked up the courage to give Adam a promise.
"Say it, Naura, I'll do it for you," Adam continued to stare at the lake.
"Keep my name in your heart forever, Adam. Never forget me, Adam, no matter what happens."
There was silence, and Adam nodded, though he didn't look at Naura. "I promise, Naura. Adam is only for Naura, and he will never marry anyone but her. That's my oath, Naura!"
Since then, Adam had been enchanted by Naura's name, even to the point where she left him. Even though Naura changed, Adam still stuck to his promise, even though the betrayal hurt him.
