Naura's Tears
18. The Destruction of Fate
The wheel of life continues to turn, the seconds ticking by, and the minutes following suit. Day after day, Diandra's life has returned to normal, just like everyone else's. She's now learning to read, even though she's now college-aged, but she's relentless in her desire to learn.
Diandra returns to her life in the big city. Like a curious child, she invites tutors to her home for private lessons. She learns everything, and she learns very quickly because she loves learning. Her parents encourage her to learn anything, especially language and technology.
Still, there's something different about the healing of her eyes and legs. Diandra looks forward to that day every Saturday. She goes to a remote village just to chat with a sick villager there, Adam.
Diandra's new life comes from that young man, and he is the man who can make her happy in this world. For some reason, love just arises from her amazement, and it blossoms. Whether it was love or not, Diandra felt so comfortable around Adam. That was all.
And then, that Saturday came. That day, Diandra went back to the village where Adam lived. Her parents gave their permission, on the condition that Aunt Jamilah and Fandi accompany her and look after her there. Diandra agreed, and she left by plane as usual. Once at the airport, they rented a car to get to Adam's house.
As many Sundays passed, Diandra would happily accompany Adam under the tree and sit on the wooden chair, facing the still-beautiful Kenanga Lake. Meanwhile, Fandi and Syarif would chat together as usual. In fact, Syarif had made progress managing the money Adam and his mother had entrusted to him.
Syarif asked Mrs. Halimah for permission to use the money he had received from the treatment of the people who came to visit. Mrs. Halimah was free to do what she wanted with the money, and it was a substantial amount, but Mrs. Halimah didn't care. Halimah was only concerned about her son, thinking that the money might one day be useful to Adam. So, Syarif asked permission to manage the money by establishing a business in a small town near Adam's house.
Syarif would be assisted by Fandi every Saturday and Sunday. Fandi himself always accompanied Hamid, the boss of several large companies, and five of the businesses managed by Diandra's father had already been listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Based on Syarif and Fandi's analysis, they prepared the right business to establish for Adam's future.
After seeing the city's potential, the right business to develop was a building supplies store. A complete building supplies store was in place, as there was a lot of construction going on in the surrounding area, but there were still none. The only exceptions were those that were incomplete or just basic. This was decided. Adam and his mother's funds were substantial, amounting to billions, more than 20 billion rupiah, because wealthy people who sought treatment and recovered would give them substantial sums of money.
Fandi had carefully prepared everything, and he immediately taught Syarif. Saturdays and Sundays were special days for Syarif to learn business directly from the source, as Fandi was already very familiar with the business world. From Fandi, Syarif learned management, recruiting workers, and sourcing large, wholesale materials suitable for his business.
Fandi used his time not only to take care of Nona but also to benefit others by teaching Syarif, as the money was also Adam's. For a name, Syarif consulted with Mrs. Halimah and came up with the name Toko Bangunan Adam Barokah, or TB Adam Barokah. The shop was prepared by Syarif and Fandi. Monday through Friday, Syarif prepared everything, following the steps Fandi had taught him. On Saturdays and Sundays, Fandi would monitor and correct any shortcomings.
On the other hand, Diandra was more intentional about making small changes in Adam, slowly but surely. Adam often talked to her and responded more frequently to Diandra's comments. Just as a wound changes when applied with medicine, so too, even the hardest stone will melt with just a steady drip of water.
That's what Diandra understood. Patience and perseverance can overcome anything. He has felt helped and pulled from darkness to light, so he can definitely help Adam from his helplessness.
Besides, for some reason, she really wanted to be close to Adam all the time and even felt empty when she was away from him. Was it a result of her own vow?
"Aren't you bored, Adam? Don't you want to make your mother happy and make her smile? Why are you doing this, Adam? You don't deserve to be sad when you're helpless, and your mother is always crying for you. At least, don't drag your mother into trouble and sadness, Adam."
Diandra said this with a slow exhale, not caring what Adam heard or felt. She had to make him change.
Diandra returned to her busy gaze at the lake water, not expecting much progress from Adam, but it was enough for her that Adam could hear her, and that one day he would come to his senses. Then, of course, he would decide whether he really wanted to marry her.
Suddenly, a soft sob was heard. Diandra was shocked to hear it. Yes, it was Adam's soft sob. She was touched; it seemed Diandra had already managed to remind him. Usually at Kenanga Lake, Adam would just smile all day, and when he mentioned his mother, he seemed to break down, tears streaming down his face, and his soft sobs could be heard.
Diandra felt bad for mentioning Adam, and Adam's hands slowly moved to wipe away his tears. They were very fragile, his bones protruding, as if he wouldn't eat unless his mother fed him.
Suddenly, something rested on Diandra's shoulder. It was Adam's head; perhaps he needed support now, and he found it. Diandra sensed Adam's attention, and she allowed her shoulder to be his.
Adam raised his right hand straight out to the lake, as if he wanted to reach the entire lake. His hand moved slowly in circles, then dropped back down.
"Please... don't leave me..." Diandra heard Adam's soft words, and she could feel his sadness. Diandra smiled, looking up at the sky. Behind them, Aunt Jamilah sat under a tree, while Fandi and Syarif, as usual, went briefly to the market in town to check out the location and would return later after their business was finished.
Of course, Diandra was happy with the change in Adam.

The wedding day was approaching. Sandi's second wedding will take place next week. Preparations were underway, and for the past week, Sandi seemed to be letting his wife, Naura, feel free. He didn't care whether she allowed him to marry her; now, his love for the beautiful and alluring Firla seemed to be his.
On the one hand, Firla was the woman who could make him a real man, while Naura seemed like a submissive homebody. Finally, Sandi decided that having two wives would complete his life.
Preparations were complete, of course. As he was about to leave his room, Naura suddenly stopped him and held his hand. "Sir, please reconsider this decision, Mr. Sandi. Naura promises to do whatever you want. I'll be like Firla, I'm willing to undergo beauty therapy or whatever. Please, don't betray our sacred love, Mr. Mas. You have to..."
"Stop it, Naura! Who do you think you are to me?" Sandi's voice boomed through their bedroom.
"What do you mean by that, Mr. Sandi? I'm your wife, Mr. Mas," Naura was shocked by her husband's harsh tone.
"Remember, I married you because of your family's debt. Back then, if my father hadn't helped your family, you would have been homeless. I love you, Naura, but I also love Firla now. And what I want now is to marry Firla, too. Period!"
Lightning struck Naura's heart again. So, all this time, her husband had been lying to her. The lie about his promise to marry her and love her completely without any debt attached, but now everything was revealed. She was nothing more than a scapegoat for Sandi's debt.
Naura had no self-respect left, and she was miserable, sacrificing everything—her true love—only to have it utterly destroyed by Sandi.
"But, bro... we can change everything. We married for love, not because of that family debt, bro."
"Enough, enough, Naura! If you still won't let me remarry Fir, then you can divorce me! And remember, pay your family's debt first. I think that's enough, and end our love if that's what you want, Naura."
She couldn't say anything else, but burst into tears, and her body collapsed against the tiles of her room. Her heart shattered into pieces, pinging like the shattering of glass that hit the wall and scattered across the floor. Naura's heart was broken,n too. What could she do? Everything had happened. Now she was Sandi's wife, and now she had decided to live with him.
This destruction was her destiny. Naura closed her eyes, her tears breaking and flowing freely.
The room was silent, filled only with Naura's soft sobs, and her husband, Sandi, had already disappeared.
