Naura's Tears
21. Rest in Peace
Night came, Sunday night. Diandra felt utterly helpless seeing Adam's condition. In fact, he never left his room. His mother thoroughly cleaned him like a baby being cleaned by her mother. She did the same every prayer.
Diandra couldn't fathom how much Adam loved Naura, making him so baby-like that he even had trouble waking up.
Surprisingly, when prayer time came, Adam would move to perform ablution (tayammum) and pray while still lying down. Diandra even asked permission to enter Adam's room several times with his mother while feeding him. Adam truly was like a baby now, except he often answered his mother's questions.
That night, Halimah couldn't sleep in her room either, so they gathered to sleep on the spring bed in the living room. Halimah woke up during the night and performed her night prayer, spreading out a prayer mat in the living room.
Diandra sensed a soft sound, a kind of sobbing. Diandra began to regain consciousness and opened her eyes. She saw Halimah kneeling with her hands raised. She prayed, her voice filled with tears, and her sobs were soft.
Diandra was mesmerized, faintly hearing a powerful prayer reaching up to the heavens. It was a mother's desperate prayer for her child's happiness.
"Wake up, my son, O Allah..."
Diandra had heard those words countless times, accompanied by sobs. The proverb is true: a mother's love is immeasurable, even unrequited by the jewels that fill the world.
A child's wound is a double wound for her. Diandra's heart ached listening to this mother's sacred prayer. Diandra got up and fixed her loose hair. She tied it up and walked, as if someone were guiding her steps, to the bathroom.
Diandra performed ablution; it had been a long time since she had performed night prayer. Previously, when it was dark, he rarely prayed at night, but now he can see clearly,y and his legs are normal. Diandra doesn't want to neglect it, even though there is still a chance, and God is still showing her. Diandra rushed and took the mukena and prayer mat. He spread the prayer mat right next to Halimah, and he started praying fervently.
When the evening prayer was finished, Diandra also raised her hands upwards. He sincerely hopes that Adam will recover and that he will be able to carry out his activities as usual and be able to chat with his mother.
Both of them were busy with their worship, and the silence of the night before morning felt so suffocating to the soul. The souls who are called to come are those whose souls have been moved by God to face Him. They are not people who show off their worship to others, but they are guided and moved by God.
While I was in the process of worshiping, some sobs sounded soft but felt like they were piercing my heart. Halimah and Diandra also heard it. They began to sharpen their ears and finish their own prayers.
The voice became increasingly clearer due to the stillness of the night, while Aunt Jamilah was still asleep.
"Oh God..." The moaning was heartbreaking, and Diandra and Halimah fell silent. They sensed it was someone's voice coming from Adam's room.
"I can't bear this trial. Let my soul be destroyed if You don't give me strength. Just destroy my body if You don't give me strength, Lord..."
Interspersed with goosebumps, tears welled up in her eyes.
"Oh God, don't make Your servant a burden to my mother, O God. End this suffering, my mother... oh my mother..."
Halimah's tears welled up. Unable to hold back her tears, she rose to her son's room. Sure enough, it was Adam's voice. Halimah ran to Adam, who was still lying there, but Adam was still in tears.
"What's wrong with you, my son? I never feel burdened by you. My life is your life, and your pain is my suffering. There is no burden for Mother, son," Halimah sat next to Adam, who was lying down. Diandra also followed and stood near them.
"Mother... Mother... Mother..."
"Yes, my son Adam, don't worry. You will soon recover and be able to hold your body and soul again. You will return to the way you were before, a man who is confident and able to accomplish everything."
"Mom... I'm sorry, Adam..."
Halimah couldn't hold back her sadness. She hugged Adam's head and cradled him in her lap. She was physically old, but she could still bear even the heaviest burden for her son.
"Did Adam just pray?"
Adam nodded, "Yes, Mom. Adam dreamed of an angel pulling me out of the darkness. She pulled me and took me to see a beautiful garden filled with flowers and a waterfall.
Then... she said, "It's time for you to wake up because your long days are about to begin."
Halimah and Diandra listened to Adam's words. Now they knew that Adam had made a lot of progress. He could even talk to me, whereas before he would only remain silent and nod or shake his head.
"Adam's tired, Mom. Adam wants to sleep. It feels like... he hasn't slept in months, Mom."
Sure enough, Adam fell asleep quickly. Halimah felt grateful and shed tears. It was such a joy for her; how could she not be, knowing that Adam had told her and that he was sleeping soundly. Usually, when Halimah came to see her son, Adam would just blink and cry. He never slept, nor had Halimah seen Adam sleep since he became ill two years ago.
Halimah saw Diandra's face standing near Adam's room. She shed tears again and softly thanked Diandra, for she was the angel who had come to pull Adam from the darkness. Halimah was certain of it; she was sent by God as Adam's healer.
Halimah saw Adam sound asleep, so she gently lifted his head and placed him on the pillow. Adam didn't wake at all. Halimah kissed Adam's forehead and left Adam's room, with Diandra following her.
"Go to sleep, Diandra. It's still 3:00 a.m. You can still sleep. Your prayers have been answered by God, God willing. Adam has made excellent progress since you've been here. I don't know how I can repay you, for you are a savior for both of me and Adam."
"Mom... don't talk like that. You and Adam are my saviors," Diandra smiled at Halimah. "By meeting you, God restored my sight and gave me the ability to walk. Even Diandra doesn't know how to repay this new life she's found."
God once again demonstrated how destiny truly guides humans and is pre-written by Him. No matter where or how, humans cannot escape God's will.
Both of them immediately wiped away their tears. At that moment, Jamilah woke up to see the two of them sitting and chatting.
"What's wrong, Miss Diandra, at this time of night, and Mrs. Halimah is awake too?" Jamilah asked, confused by her situation. The night had arrived, and she, too, had just woken up and didn't understand what was happening.
"It's okay, Mrs. Jamilah. We were just chatting. If you want to pray at night, go ahead. We'll go back to sleep," Halimah briefly explained to Jamilah. Jamilah understood and immediately got up. It was rare for her to pray at night, but since she had been advised, she headed to the bathroom to prepare for prayer. Halimah nodded at Diandra and lay back down, turning her body to the right. Diandra followed her and slept next to Halimah. It didn't matter to her that she came from a wealthy family.
Halimah still seemed to be shedding tears of joy; somehow, Diandra realized that she was still shedding tears. Diandra moved her left hand and embraced Halimah.
Halimah felt a sense of coolness; the girl's gentle embrace was like rain falling on barren, dry land that hadn't rained in years. Or like the wind blowing away stains and dirt that hadn't been cleaned for years.
Halimah felt a sense of peace.
"Thank you, Diandra. I always pray that you will always be protected by God and that you will always be happy."
From behind Halimah, Diandra quietly said Amen. Their relationship was truly like that of a mother and daughter. Halimah prayed that this happiness would last, and she even prayed so much that Adam and Diandra could become husband and wife, or at least good friends, if God wills it.

That morning, Diandra saw that Adam had started walking, albeit with a limp. He was walking on his own, and his vision was starting to resemble that of a normal human, not blurry and dreamy.
"Where are you going, Adam?" Halimah approached her son. Diandra was still sitting in the living room, watching them both at the door leading out of the house.
"Mom... I want to go to Kenanga Lake. At least to say goodbye to Naura. Adam will try to recover from this pain and helplessness. Adam wants to say goodbye to Naura."
"But... Naura's gone, Adam. She's not at Kenanga Lake?"
Adam looked slowly and deeply at his mother, Halimah. "Mom... maybe Naura is gone. Her body has left me, but her soul remains at Kenanga Lake. She was forced to leave Adam, Mom. Adam will say goodbye, and Adam will start his new days, Mom."
Halimah nodded, and Syarif was already in front of the house on his motorcycle, ready to take Adam as usual. Syarif was with Fandi; Fandi had stayed at Syarif's house last night.
"Adam..." came a soft, womanly voice. Diandra.
"Miss Diandra, yes," Adam glanced at the woman sitting at the guest table, "Thank you for taking care of me all this time."
"Y... Yes, Adam. May I come with you to the lake?" A sudden pounding in Diandra's chest. For some reason, this was the first time she felt like Adam was really talking to her. All this time, it had felt like he was just delirious.
"Go ahead, Miss. You have the right to know everything," Adam smiled at Diandra, then turned and walked out the door, where Syarif and Sandi were.
Adam limped slowly, and Halimah helped him slowly down the two stairs at the exit. They headed toward Syarif, who was under a tent where several people often sought alternative medicine, with Adam's tears.
"Syarif, my friend... Take me to the lake for the last time, okay?" Adam's smile suddenly became so beautiful, his eyes gleaming with life. Hit by the morning sunlight, that smile was like a baby's first smile after being born.
"Adam!" Syarif couldn't believe it. He rubbed his eyes repeatedly, "I'm not dreaming, am I?" Syarif truly couldn't believe it. If it was really Adam, and he called me my friend, it meant his soul had returned, and he was now conscious.
"There's no need to dream of being with you, Syarif!"
Syarif couldn't hold himself back any longer and ran into his friend. He hugged him so tightly that Adam felt pain in his now frail body.
"It hurts, Syarif!"
"It doesn't matter, I'm so happy, Adam!"
Syarif continued to hug Adam tightly, tears streaming down his face. The trials would pass, and the fresh wind had returned. The rain would come at the right time, and the wheel of life would surely turn.
Several people watching the scene felt happy and smiled, seeing the sincerity of friends and family. Everyone felt love and sincerity welling up in their hearts.
