Naura's Tears
4. Adam's Love Wounds Are Too Deep
No mother can hold back her tears when she sees her son suffering. Halimah, Adam's mother, even tried to be strong to care for her son.
Halimah would only cry when night fell, asking Allah to quickly heal her son and restore him to his former state. She was always cheerful and even comforted Halimah.
Halimah didn't even dare to be angry with her only son; she wanted to see for herself if he could recover on his own. Halimah's grief was not only limited to caring for Adam, but also the loss of her husband, and Adam was now facing the terrible fate of his girlfriend, Naura.
Halimah found some relief in her grief through Syarif, Adam's best friend since childhood and whom she considered her own son. Syarif regularly visited Adam and encouraged him to recover. Although there was no response from Adam, Halimah was confident that he would soon recover on his own. The clouds were approaching, bringing a cloud to Halimah's heart. A mother who had to watch her child suffer was a mother who would replace her child's pain for the sake of her child's smile. If her child's pain could be endured, a mother would replace her child's pain. It was all for the sake of her child's happiness.
Raindrops drenched the earth. The sound was like an endless tinkling, beautiful to hear. Halimah, still red-eyed, went out carrying rice and side dishes as usual and approached her son, Adam's, room.
That afternoon, Adam lay still, uttering only one word: "Naura."
Halimah sat on the edge of the wooden bed, gazing at her son's disheveled face. It had been six days since that day, and Adam seemed to have lost his will to live. He refused to eat, and even when he slept, his eyes were open, and all he could say was Naura's name.
Halimah stroked Adam's hair, silently contemplating how miserable your fate must be, son. Halimah asked Adam to eat, but his lips wouldn't open, only softly uttering the names Nuara and Naura.
Halimah also set the rice and tempeh very soft, and continued to press them firmly. Halimah did that while shedding tears, tears of a mother's sincerity. Halimah forced the mixed and soft food into Adam's mouth. Even though it was difficult to open, Halimah still forced it until something entered Adam's mouth.
Adam could be seen swallowing the soft food, even a little. Mrs. Halimah's tears continued to fall again. My son, Adam.
"Assalamu'alaikum," A voice came from the front door. That's Sharif's voice. Halimah answered the greeting and asked Syarif to just come in because the front door was open.
"There hasn't been any change in Adam, ma'am?"
Halimah just shook her head while still preparing food for Adam. Syarif moved a plastic chair and sat near his friend.
"You have to be strong, Adam, a friend who always gives me advice. Now you have to be strong, Adam, wake up, don't you just be like this because of Naura?" Syarif gently patted the shoulder of his friend, who was still lying with his eyes staring blankly.
Silently, Syarif shook his head, feeling sad.
"I can't meet Naura, Ma'am. At least she should come and encourage Adam. She's getting married tomorrow, and her family won't let me see her," Syarif explained to Halimah about Naura.
"It's okay, Syarif. Naura must be busy with her wedding preparations. What's my son to her?" Halimah looked back at her son, who remained unmoved.
"At least she should see Adam's condition now. She's the one who caused him to be like this," Syarif continued to protest.
"Come on, Syarif. Maybe this is what God has ordained for my son. Maybe God has prepared the best destiny for him," Halimah wiped away her tears. She also had to understand that they were a poor family, and perhaps it was wrong for a poor person to love the richest people in the village, Mr. Hasan's family.
For six days, nothing had come from Adam's lips except Naura's name. His love was so deep. However, Adam, a graduate of an Islamic boarding school, never forgot his prayers. For some reason, Halimah felt it was a test from God. Adam always woke up every time he prayed, stumbled to perform ablution, and performed the prayer. He also remembered his mother, several times crying and apologizing to her.
Three things Adam remembered fondly: his God, his mother, and Naura.
"Naura..." Adam's voice echoed softly, breaking Halimah's heart. Syarif, hearing this, was once again moved. Adam's tears flowed, accompanied by his voice calling out to Naura. They dripped one by one.
"Remember, my friend... your love is so deep that you're completely captivated by it. How could you..." Syarif stopped, his tears falling. Syarif had been Adam's best friend since their time at the Islamic boarding school, studying together.
The heavens themselves witnessed what would happen to each human being; everything was already written, what surprises and calamities would befall them.

Sunday arrived, and Adam suddenly woke up. Halimah was happy. Adam usually only woke for prayer. However, this time he got up to take a shower. Adam looked thinner. Adam got up and put on his best clothes and a peci (traditional Islamic cap).
Adam didn't respond to anything his mother said. He simply put on his best clothes and his shabby peci (traditional skullcap). He picked up his bicycle and began pedaling.
"Adam, Adam... where are you going, son?"
Adam didn't seem to hear his mother. "It's Sunday, Mom. I'm going to meet Naura at Kenanga Lake."
His mother burst into tears, the tears of a mother's helplessness, unable to provide complete happiness for her child. Halimah understood all too well how deep Adam's love for Naura was, just like her own,n when her husband left her forever when she needed him most, while pregnant with Adam. It was her sadness that perhaps resonated within Adam, a sadness she had experienced before.
But at that time, Halimah had to be strong in facing the test because of the child she was carrying. She tried to be strong, raising Adam as hard as she could. But fate repeated itself. Now, Adam's love was even greater. What was happening, O Allah? Halimah couldn't stop asking her Lord.
Adam, who looked thin, tried to pedal his bicycle, but fell several times. He was still trying, but his strength wasn't enough. He was weak now, and his sadness prevented him from eating properly.
Adam stood still, and Halimah watched him. Adam simply put his bicycle aside. He began walking, heading towards the lake of his love, "Naura... wait for me."
Halimah couldn't hold back her tears.
That very day, Naura's wedding was held. Naura married Sandi Harnanto, the son of a wealthy city merchant. Naura's family was also well-known in the village, and her beautiful face made Sandi fall in love.
And so... every human's journey unfolded, the lines of destiny were carved, and what awaited each person remained a mystery.
