Naura's Tears

9. Diandra Elvina

Two years passed just like that.

People came Monday through Saturday, because when Sunday came, Adam got up from his bed and went to Kenanga Lake. Adam would spend the day gazing at the clear waters of the lake from a bamboo chair under a guava tree. His smile widened. No matter what was happening in the world, he enjoyed the view and gazed at Naura's face in his imagination.

Syarif was there too, standing leaning against the large guava tree.

Two years had passed since Adam's name became famous for healing tears. Syarif was a loyal friend, always with Adam, no matter what. He even helped arrange for guests who came to his friend's house. Syarif couldn't believe how much Adam loved Naura.

Even after being abandoned and betrayed, he still loved the woman named Naura.

One thing Syarif always heard from Adam was his constant words of encouragement for Naura to be okay.

"Naura..., Naura..., are you okay there?"

After saying that, Adam smiled alone again. Tears welled up again, flowing slowly and disappearing as they soaked into his tear-soaked shirt.

"Why don't you stop looking at the lake and that smile of yours?" Syarif stared straight ahead, his gaze distant. He couldn't fathom it. Hundreds of days had passed, and Adam was still like that. His thin body, his Sunday smile. "What are you looking at, Adam?"

Adam picked up a small stone from under the bamboo chair and threw it onto the water's surface, creating two splashes of reflection. "Every Sunday, Naura always looks at the water of Lake Kenanga. I certainly love and sanctify this lake; whatever Naura loves is also my love. Adam was created only for Naura."

Again, those words made Syarif shake his head. Syarif also vowed to himself that he wouldn't marry until his friend recovered and recovered from his grief. He already had a woman he loved, but he postponed his own wedding so he could spend more time with his friend.

Adam was still staring straight at the flat surface of the water for so long that he again remembered the good times he had with Naura. Their love is so pure that they don't even dare to do the slightest bad thing that could tarnish that love itself.

Every Sunday was their meeting, a meeting that could be described as the greatest meeting in Adam's life. Looking at Naura was enough to make him happy.

"You have to wake up from your sleep, Adam. Naura is no longer yours; she is someone else's wife!" Syarif's words were slow but firm, but they didn't change Adam's face. He still smiled as if he saw heaven in front of him, no matter what other people said around him, heaven was still heaven, nothing could beat its beauty.

"Leave me like this, Syarif. You are my best friend. Remember, I am your brother who will never forget you. But... my heart is only for Naura, forever..."

"Are you really crazy, Adam! So many people think you're crazy, and I'm your best friend. Always defending you! Don't you feel sorry for her mother, who has to endure pain and suffering because of you!"

Hah!

Syarif covered his face with his palms. He was already visibly upset, and he took another deep breath to calm his heart. He knew he was wrong! His best friend, Adam. He was hurt, and all because his soul was still trapped in his love for Naura.

"Forgive your friend, Adam. I just want you to be able to return to normal, laughing and being happy. At least have mercy on your mother! Have mercy on her and come to your senses. I will always look after you, because we are friends in the same boat."

Without further conversation, Syarif remained silent for a moment, then left again. Later, when dusk fell, he would return on his motorcycle and give Adam a ride home. Yes, there is a change, now Adam is willing to be taken on his motorbike, even though he only smiled along the way, and his return was differen;, he looked sad leaving Lake Kenanga.

Adam's expression, every time he left Kenanga Lake, seemed as if he were leaving behind someone who loved him. It was all just an illusion, but Adam believed it was real.

Syarif always accompanied Adam and picked him up in the afternoon. He did it all sincerely; their brotherhood was stronger than blood, or perhaps even the same. Clearly, they had studied together at the Islamic boarding school and slept together.

In fact, Syarif learned a lot from Adam while at the boarding school. Adam was a role model for him in everything. Adam studied diligently and quickly grasped all the material at the boarding school, including the yellow books. However, not everyone can face the trials of life. The trials of love, Adam was lost.

On the other side.

At the other end of the island, in a large and magnificent city filled with sparkling city lights. At night in the city, it was like being among the stars, as the twinkling lights dazzled the eye.

Unfortunately, some souls had everything, but their eyes couldn't see the beauty of the world. She had been blind since childhood, and her legs were paralyzed, requiring her to sit in a wheelchair all day.

"Diandra! Diandra, my child!"

A voice came from a mother who always accompanied Diandra when her mother came home, and they would chat. Diandra always had a new story, and so did what happened in her own blind vision.

She could only see when someone told her a story, and how the story could paint a picture in her imagination. For someone who is blind, the best way to visualize is simply to listen to stories about the beauty of the world and the beauty of color.

For Diandra, perhaps all she wanted to see was color. What color really is: red, yellow, green, blue, white, black, and so on. Just hearing about color kept Diandra imagining how beautiful it was. Not daring to hope for more, Diandra only wanted to see the difference in color once in her life. Then, perhaps, her life would be complete, and then she would be willing to be taken by God. Perhaps her dream was too ambitious for someone born blind. Hmm... Diandra exhaled slowly and tried to return to reality. For her, imagination was everything. For someone who couldn't see or walk.

"Why are you so excited, Mom?" Diandra smiled. She didn't know how clear and beautiful her smile was; she couldn't see it herself, but it was the most sincere smile she ever gave her mother. "Will you tell Diandra about everything in this world again? Diandra is waiting for you, Mom."

The middle-aged woman was Sarah Emin. Sarah felt sorry for her daughter. Diandra Elvina was her second child, but things were different for her older brother, Elfan Hamid. Elfan was the eldest child and had every privilege, even while currently completing his postgraduate studies in Business and Management. Elfan had also become the director of a large company entrusted to him.

Diandra's mother, Sarah, felt that Elfan had already had a good life. He was perfect and capable of managing a business well, while her other daughter could only sit in a chair. Therefore, Sarah spent more of her time with Diandra.

Diandra, sitting in her wheelchair, her eyesight blurry.

"Mom will always tell you stories, but there's some strange news that's gone viral recently online and on television."

A frown formed on Diandra's fair, clean forehead. "Strange news? Usually, Mom always tells strange stories, so why does this seem even stranger? Hehehe," Diandra laughed, and to Sarah, her daughter's laughter was like gold, even more precious than all the wealth she and her husband possessed.

Sarah was told by her husband to look at a link to a viral news story about a young man in a village who had tears that could heal anyone, regardless of their illness. Although the news Sarah read reported that some had recovered and others hadn't when they came to him for treatment.

The healing potion was also strange, as it came from her tears, which had been shed because she was hurt by love and seemed dazed. Or crazy.

This had been confirmed by the envoy sent to the site, and many reports indicated that many people had been healed by the tears; even those who were paralyzed were able to walk again.

"Hmm... Hmm..." Sarah felt unsure how to begin her story, as this was certainly taboo and strange. Moreover, her husband had asked her to persuade Diandra to believe in such a myth in the hope that her blindness and paralyzed legs would be healed.

It was highly unlikely and unreasonable.

"Mom... come on, tell me. I've been waiting for you. Why do you seem so hard to speak to?"

Diandra's beaming face left Sarah at a loss for words. However, everything was for Diandra's happiness; whatever happened was for Diandra's sake. However, Sarah was worried that the treatment wouldn't work, as it had before. The sadness and disappointment on Diandra's marble face made her very sad.

"Hmm... there's an interesting story. There's a medicine that supposedly can cure all kinds of diseases and disorders. Even paralyzed people can be cured."

Sarah paused, waiting for her daughter's reaction when she told her story. Sarah remained silent for a few minutes, and it was unusual for Diandra to react for so long, as she usually became enthusiastic whenever her mother told a story.

Diandra exhaled slowly, as she usually did when reacting to a boring story. "Mom and Dad haven't given up on Diandra. Their wishes are truly extraordinary. They've done everything to cure me, but... It's been too long since that wish has come true. This time, it's impossible, like the myths that occur in the modern world. Mom and Dad are educated and intelligent people, but you still believe in myths like that?"

There was a moment of silence. It was true that the myth of healing with human tears was completely absurd. After all, Diandra had been treated by various specialists since childhood, and had yet to receive a cure for her paralyzed legs and blindness.

Transplant operations had also been performed twice, using donors who had recently died at the deaths of their relatives. However, the donated corneas were not a match, even though they were initially determined to be a match. However, this risk does exist due to an incomplete nervous system problem in Diandra's cornea.

Even with modern, sophisticated equipment, the surgery failed twice, leading to an infection in Diandra's nervous system.

Therefore, Diandra's parents postponed the eye transplant surgery for their daughter, fearing it would cause other health problems, as Diandra experienced several headaches after the surgery.

And now, something even stranger has emerged: the tears of a sick young man can cure the disease.

Diandra smiled at her mother, even though she couldn't see them. "Mom and Dad have been very good to Diandra. There's no need to do anything strange to make Diandra happy. All your love is enough to make Diandra happy."

Sarah shed tears hearing her daughter's sincerity and patience with her situation. "I know, my daughter. You're an adult now, capable of calming your father and mother. However, your father has sent several envoys to verify the truth. And the results show that some people have miraculously recovered overnight from paralysis, or some have had strokes and suddenly been able to walk again."

"Never mind, Mother... Let Diandra speak to Father herself. Don't worry, Diandra will explain to Father that he doesn't need to believe such myths."

Sarah couldn't say anything else. Perhaps her father, Abdul Hamid, could persuade Diandra. Diandra and her father were also very close, and Hamid, her husband, felt that his love was poured out more on Diandra than on his first son, Elfan.

This was because Elfan was born perfect, and Diandra was born with a disability. Therefore, Hamid spent more time with Diandra when he returned home from managing the company, all of which was under the Hamid family's umbrella.

"Okay, whatever the decision, we'll discuss it with your father tonight."

Diandra smiled again, "Okay, Mom, now I have to tell Diandra another story. Tell her something interesting, Mom."

Sarah smiled too, this time telling a story about beautiful butterflies. They undergo metamorphosis by becoming cocoons after consuming food and being kept. They then transform into beautiful butterflies with millions of colors adorning their wings.

Diandra was captivated by the story of the butterflies, longing to see the colorful wings. In fact, she listened to her mother's story while imagining herself among the trees and flowers. She ran here and there and played with the butterflies that fluttered around her.

Diandra absorbed her mother's story, the beautiful happiness. Diandra leaned on her mother's shoulder, who sat next to her. Sarah gently stroked her daughter's hair, and Diandra fell asleep while listening to the butterfly story.

Diandra dreamed of flying with an animal called a butterfly, and in her imagination, the butterfly circled her. However, its shape matched her imagination. It had many legs and two antennae on its head. It had feathers and beautiful eyes that darted back and forth.

Even more beautiful were its wings, which flapped constantly. Absolutely beautiful.
