Shadow World: The Ash Heritage
7. The Inverted Ocean
Surya is left speechless as he looks up to find a vast, churning ocean suspended entirely across the sky rather than beneath his feet. Giant marine life and colossal, whale-like entities glide silently through the celestial waters, defying all known laws of physics.
When the Relic warns him not to stare upward for too long because the inhabitants above are watching, Surya discovers humanoid, eel-like monsters peering down from the heavens. One of these creatures slips through the watery barrier, smoothly swimming directly down through the open air.
As combat erupts, Surya and the other survivors realize that standard gravity no longer applies; their bodies lift from the ground and float, forcing them to navigate the space as if swimming. Utilizing newly heightened observational skills to track the monster's peculiar movement patterns, Surya maneuvers through the air, strikes the beast down, and absorbs a mysterious black sphere left in its wake.
The absorption triggers another overwhelming vision depicting an ancient, black-robed ruler sitting upon a burning throne, declaring himself the lord of ash. When Surya regains consciousness, his hand bears a newly evolved sigil complete with a black crown, and the Relic reveals the true magnitude of the legacy he now carries: the inheritance of the Ash King.
