18. Lockdown of the Main Server Room

The high-pitched emergency alarm shrieked without pause, rocking the cyber-walls of the main server room as it began to shudder violently. Thin smoke billowed from the transparent floor, while the tower's total purge countdown on the main display flashed rapidly: [ 02:15... 02:14... ]

Gilang hoisted Wira tightly across his back, his left arm wrapping around Rania's shoulder as she stumbled beside him. Their breaths came in ragged, gasping pulls within the cold air thick with static electricity.

"Hurry, Rania! We have to take the northern sector emergency door before the ninetieth-floor elevator completely dies!" Gilang yelled over the screaming sirens, hurrying toward the massive steel door that served as the server room's sole exit.

Yet, just as they stepped near the threshold, the purple glow spinning within the core console pillar suddenly flared with a bright flash. A soft, humming digital engine vibrated, filling the entire room with a silence that instantly felt deeply sacred.

Gilang halted his steps. He glanced slowly back, staring at the light pillar with a held breath.

The purple light particles no longer drifted wildly; they condensed, gathered, and shaped themselves into a human silhouette intimately familiar to Gilang.

"Renata...?" Gilang rasped, his eyes widening in shock.

The figure materialized no longer as a flesh-and-blood human in the real world, but as a transparent digital consciousness projection, casting a warm golden glow from behind the purple aura. That resolute face looked remarkably tranquil, adorned with a faint smile implying absolute peace—freed from the burden of sin and guilt that had haunted her for so long.

Rania turned as well, covering her mouth with a trembling hand. "Madam Renata...?"

Renata's consciousness projection stepped slowly out of the light pillar, standing right before them. Though her form was woven from lines of code and light particles, the look in her eyes was intensely alive and filled with warmth.

"Gilang..." Renata's voice echoed softly inside their minds, bypassing physical sound waves to touch their inner consciousness directly. "You cannot stay here. This tower will collapse in under two minutes."

Gilang lowered Wira slowly to the floor with Rania's help, then stepped forward toward Renata's projected form. Instinctively, he reached out his hand, trying to touch the woman—but his fingers slipped straight through empty air and vacant light.

"Renata, don't be an idiot!" Gilang cried out, his voice cracking with overwhelming agony. Hot tears finally spilled down his ash-stained cheeks. "We saved Wira, we stopped the app! Come with us out of here! We'll find another way to save you!"

Renata smiled, shaking her head gently. She raised her digital semiconductor hand, matching the gesture as if touching Gilang's cheek, even though an impassable void separated their palms.

"This soul-harvesting system still leaves behind dangerous code residue deep within the foundational architecture of the orbital satellite network, Gilang," Renata said softly, her voice sounding soothingly calm amid the deafening alarm. "If I don't stay here to lock down the server core from the inside permanently, the CEO's lingering consciousness could seize back control at any moment."

"I don't give a damn about stray code or that bastard CEO!" Gilang shouted in frustration, stepping closer, staring straight into the depths of Renata's light-formed eyes. "I already lost Nara on the ninetieth floor... I won't lose you too, Renata!"

Hearing Nara's name, Renata's gaze dimmed slightly with a mix of profound gratitude and deep sorrow. "Nara is a true hero... and so are you, Gilang. You both staked everything for this place."

"Then let's get out together!" Gilang cried desperately. "We'll start a fresh life out there! You said my morning coffee tasted way better than corporate office coffee, didn't you?!"

Renata gave a soft chuckle—a melodic sound, the most genuine laughter Gilang had ever heard from her. She looked at him intently, recording every detail of the cynical yet gold-hearted man who had altered her path at the very end.

"Yeah... your instant coffee really was far more memorable than expensive board-meeting wine," Renata whispered meaningfully. "But my redemption has to be carried out to the bitter end right here, Gilang. This is my destiny... and my duty to keep your world safe from the shadow of the machine."

Before Gilang could step closer to reach her form, Renata's projection spun sharply around. With a single sweeping gesture toward the master console, she slammed her hand down on the Lockdown & Purge Sequence trigger.

Click! Zzzzt!

The massive steel door of the main server room suddenly slid shut at full speed, cutting off the core console area from the exit threshold where Rania stood supporting Wira.

"No! Renata!" Gilang lunged forward, but his movement fell short by a fraction of a second. The steel door slammed against the floor with a deafening metallic thud, permanently locked by the internal cyber-system.

"Boss! The main door's locked from the inside!" Rania shrieked in panic from across the barrier, hammering her fists against the thick steel surface while supporting Wira as he began to stir. "We have to get out now! The floor's starting to cave!"

Gilang gripped the steel door's seam tightly, his fingers turning raw under the crushing weight of despair. "Renata! Open the door! Please, open it!"

Through a tiny transparent glass panel near the top of the steel door, the shadow of Renata's golden light aura drifted closer. She stood behind the glass, gazing at Gilang with her final, most beautiful smile—a smile of regret transforming into eternal relief.

"Goodbye, you foolish freelancer," Renata's voice whispered softly inside Gilang's mind. "Thank you... for making me feel alive again."

"Don't...!" Gilang choked out a plea.

With a resolute wave of her hand, Renata hit the total annihilation button on the core console behind her, casting one final farewell wave before pivoting to slap the external emergency override that fired the automatic opening mechanism on Gilang's side of the door.

Whoosh!

Emergency pneumatic pressure from without blasted Gilang, Rania, and Wira outward across the northern sector emergency threshold back into the ninetieth-floor corridor, away from the main server room.

"Boss! Watch out!" Rania shrieked, yanking Gilang's arm as he stared blankly at the sealed steel door.

On the main corridor display, the tower's total purge countdown hit its final ticks:

[ 00:10... 00:09... 00:08... ]

"We have to run now! This building's coming down!" Wira groaned weakly from Gilang's back, his consciousness slowly clearing.

Gilang clenched his fists hard, tears dripping onto the corridor floor. With every last shred of strength and iron will left in his chest, Gilang spun around, gathering Rania close and bracing Wira tight.

"Run!" Gilang roared hoarsely, launching them away from the collapsing zone.

00:03... 00:02... 00:01... 00:00!

Boommmmmmm!

A cataclysmic explosion from the topmost floor tore through the concrete skeleton of the Ant Corp central tower, swallowing the entire main server room into an ocean of blinding white light and bringing down the corporate empire from the inside out in its decisive final moments.
