The Cast-Off Wife's Revenge

21. Dismantling the Final Fortress

The capital's night sky appeared crystal clear, adorned by a scattering of brilliant diamond-like stars shimmering across a vast black canvas. Atop the peak of the tallest skyscraper in the downtown district, an exclusive rooftop had been transformed into a profoundly romantic banquet venue. Transparent glass flooring adorned with white rose petals, alongside rows of aromatherapy candles burning inside glass cylinders, created a warm, dim glow of ambient light.

Aileen stepped out of the private elevator clad in an elegant long navy blue evening gown that wrapped gracefully around her figure. Her long hair fell loosely behind her in soft waves. The moment she set foot onto the rooftop area, her breath hitched momentarily, mesmerized by the view of the city below stretching out like a shimmering ocean of jeweled lights.

In the center of the rooftop stood a man dressed in a formal black suit without a tie. Damian Baskara. The man turned his head upon hearing the sound of footsteps, and the sincerest smile curved onto his lips—a smile he reserved exclusively for Aileen alone.

"You came," Damian said softly, stepping forward to welcome her with an adoring gaze.

"An invitation from a mysterious CEO is certainly not something I could ignore," Aileen replied with a subtle smile, her cheeks flushing a light pink as Damian captured her hand and pressed a tender kiss to the back of her knuckles.

Damian led Aileen toward a private dining table styled with minimalist elegance, facing directly toward the night horizon. After serving a light dinner and pouring a touch of red wine into crystal glasses, the atmosphere between them gradually grew profoundly intimate and serene.

Gazing straight into the depths of Aileen's eyes, Damian set his fork down gently. His mood abruptly shifted, heavy with emotion he had bottled up in silence for years.

"Aileen..." Damian called out with a raspy yet mesmerizing baritone voice.

Aileen looked up, meeting the man's gaze with rapt attention. "What is it, Damian?"

Damian drew a deep breath, fixing his eyes intently on hers. "Tonight, beneath this very sky, I want to be honest about everything that has thundered within my chest for so long. When I stood at your gravesite three years ago, seeing you lie rigid inside that casket... my world shattered instantly. I felt like I had failed to be the person who should have protected you from that monster disguised as a husband."

Hearing those words, the dark memories of the past flashed briefly across Aileen's mind, causing her eyes to well up instantly.

"Damian, please don't..." Aileen murmured softly, shaking her head gently. "It wasn't your fault. I was simply too foolish, letting myself be blinded..."

Damian reached out, clasping Aileen's hand tightly across the table. The warmth of that touch bled straight into the innermost depths of Aileen's heart.

"But fate granted me a second chance," Damian continued, his voice trembling with suppressed emotion. "And from the very first second I saw you open your eyes again in this timeline, I swore to myself: I will never let a tear of sorrow fall from your eyes ever again. I love you, Aileen... not merely out of past regret, but because you are the one and only home for my weary soul."

The final wall around Aileen's heart crumbled entirely. Tears of pure happiness spilled freely down her cheeks. For years, she had lived amidst harsh words, betrayal, and a profound sense of worthlessness instilled by Rehan. Yet tonight, the man before her had arrived to cradle every broken fragment of those scars, healing her with the sincerity of unconditional love.

Aileen rose from her chair, walked around the table, and threw her arms straight around Damian's broad frame. She buried her face against his chest, weeping with relief wrapped tightly within his embrace.

"Thank you, Damian..." Aileen sobbed with overflowing gratitude. "Thank you for loving me just as I am... Thank you for saving my nearly lifeless soul."

Damian held Aileen tightly, letting the woman pour out all of her emotions while resting his chin gently atop her head. "I'm right here, Aileen. From now on, you don't need to put up those defensive walls anymore. Let me protect you for the rest of my days."

Hearing that sacred vow, Aileen slowly pulled back from Damian's embrace. With absolute courage, she cast away every remaining shred of doubt in her heart, reached up to grip the lapels of Damian's suit jacket, and united their lips in a sweet, warm, and deeply loving kiss—a declaration that she was surrendering the rest of her life entirely to him.

Amidst the romantic silence of the night, Damian slowly parted their kiss, though his hands still framed Aileen's face with infinite care.

He lowered his frame slightly, then reached into the inner pocket of his jacket. A small, sleek velvet box in pitch black was withdrawn from within.

Aileen gasped softly, her eyes blinking wide as she stared at the velvet box with a held breath.

Damian slowly opened the lid of the small box. Inside lay an exquisite solitaire diamond ring of an elegant, classic design, catching the starlight and candlelight in a breathtaking shimmer.

"Aileen Hartono," Damian whispered in a raspy voice overflowing with sincerity, staring straight into the eyes of the woman he loved most in the world. "Will you spend the rest of your life with me, walking hand in hand through every sunset and dawn, and be the queen of my remaining years?"

Aileen could no longer hold back her tears of joy. The most beautiful smile bloomed across her lips, radiating overwhelming happiness. She nodded decisively with a trembling voice, "Yes, Damian... I will."

Hearing that reply, a brilliant spark of joy illuminated Damian's eyes. He lifted the diamond ring from its box, then meticulously slipped it onto Aileen's left ring finger. The ring fit with flawless perfection, as though crafted specifically for that finger alone.

The moment the ring rested brilliantly in place, Damian pulled Aileen close once more, uniting their lips in a deeper, more passionate kiss that carved an eternal vow beneath the capital's night sky—the dawn of a genuine happiness that no one could ever tear away from them again.
