The Cheating System: From Construction Worker to Royal Hero

2. A Cheating Contract!

The golden glow was far more than mere light. It felt like thousands of tiny needles pricking through the pores of Raga’s skin, only to solidify into an ice-cold gust of wind that squeezed the breath right out of his lungs. In the blink of an eye, the deafening roar of the cement mixer and Grom’s obnoxious shouting vanished entirely.

All that remained was a static hum—like a broken television struggling to catch a broadcast signal—echoing inside Raga’s head.

Raga stumbled, gasping. He was no longer standing in the dusty corner of the construction site. His boots were now resting on lush, green grass—a shade of green so vibrant it looked almost unnatural. Looming before him was an ancient forest whose massive tree trunks reached as high as ten-story buildings, as though he had been abruptly dropped onto the set of a high-budget fantasy blockbuster.

"Hello? Ma'am? Old lady?!" Raga spun around in a panic. Empty. There was nothing except the cheerful chirping of birds that sounded suspiciously like mockery.

[Welcome to the Realm of Eudor, Site Worker 7789!]

The translucent blue screen materialized once more, this time expanding to cover half his field of vision. In the top-left corner sat a brand logo resembling a sinisterly smiling eye.

"Site Worker 7789? What the hell is that?" Raga scoffed, cold sweat beading on his forehead. "System, can you hear me? I want to go home! I just wanted to share my lunch, not go on a guided tour to nowhere!"

[Error 404: The option 'Go Home' was not found in the trial version. You signed the 'Instant Sultan' contract by tapping the 'YES' button three seconds ago.]

Raga froze. "The 'YES' button? You mean... back there? I thought that was just a pop-up ad for a predatory loan app!"

[A critical user error on the subject's part. Reading the 'Terms & Conditions' is basic digital etiquette—even in a fantasy world. Please review your mission details now.]

Without warning, the blue screen scrolled rapidly downward like an endless digital scroll. Raga squinted, trying to make out the small print whizzing past his eyes.

[MAIN QUEST LOG: THE EUDOR RESTORATION PROJECT] 1. Locate & Secure Princess Naria: (Target is currently under pursuit by rebels. Survival rate: 0.01%). 2. Kingdom Overhaul: (Overthrow the rebel regime, rebuild infrastructure, and revitalize the economy). 3. Ultimate Reward: One chest containing 50 kilograms of pure gold.

"Hold on, hold on, hold on!" Raga shouted, his voice cracking. "Save a kingdom?! Who do you think I am, a superhero? I'm just a site hand! I mix cement and haul bricks! Do you honestly expect me to take on a rebel army with a trowel?!"

[System Analysis: User Raga's current combat capability is ranked at 'Dust' level. However, rest assured. The System has granted an initial starter kit titled 'Basic Supply Package'.]

A crisp ding! chimed in the air. A plain brown cardboard box—strikingly similar to an instant noodle carton from the site supply shed—dropped from the sky, landing squarely at his boots with a dull thud.

THUD!

Raga kicked the box skeptically. "This is my basic supply package? Are you kidding me?"

He tore the box open. There was no legendary sword inside, no enchanted armor, and certainly no holy superpowers. The box contained:

1. A single 600ml bottle of mineral water.

2. A tiny flashlight with a dying battery.

3. A pair of yellow rubber gloves he routinely used for mixing concrete.

4. A hand-drawn map sketched in colored crayons.

Raga’s jaw dropped. "System... what is this garbage? This is basic construction gear!"

[System: Correct. You are a construction specialist. The System has re-calibrated your 'Combat Skills' into 'Construction Skills'. If you cannot defeat enemies with raw martial power, defeat them with structural engineering techniques. Warning: If the target (Princess Naria) perishes, the contract is terminated and the subject will be erased from existence.]

Raga’s knees buckled. So he hadn't just been kidnapped; he was being forced into playing hero with basic handyman gear. This wasn't a reward—it was a death trap disguised as a golden opportunity.

"Why me?" Raga muttered in sheer frustration.

[System: Because you were the only human foolish enough to hand over your lunch to an elderly woman—who was actually the Dimensional Goddess—while on the brink of starvation yourself. Foolish kindness is often the key that unlocks the wrong gate of destiny.]

"Son of a..." Raga dragged a hand roughly across his face. He looked down at the yellow rubber gloves in his hands. Strangely, as he pulled them on, a weird surge of energy coursed through his hands—not mana, not magic, but something that felt distinctly like... curing concrete?

Suddenly, a loud explosion echoed from over the crest of a nearby hill, accompanied by a woman’s sharp scream. The clash of clashing steel reverberated through the air, sending flocks of startled birds scattering into the sky.

[Warning: Target (Princess Naria) detected within a 500-meter radius. Status: Critical. Would you like to initiate the mission?]

Raga stared at the floating notification, then down at the ridiculous yellow rubber gloves covering his hands. He had no choice. If he didn't move now, he’d be erased—or worse, die without ever knowing what it felt like to be rich.

"Fine! You cheat system! I'll do it!" Raga roared toward the sky.

[Choice Accepted. Best of luck, Worker 7789. Reminder: Death during mission parameters is not covered by health insurance.]

"Screw you!" Raga cursed. He broke into a sprint, barreling through the dense underbrush with a dying flashlight in one hand and ridiculous yellow rubber gloves on the other.

He was Raga: a day-laborer turned princess-rescuer. He didn't know the way to the castle, let alone how to cast a single spell. But one thing was absolute: he was not letting that chest of gold slip through his fingers.
