The Dragon King's Rebellion

19. Server Overload

The grand throne room of Obsidian Castle had transformed into a digital crater of hell. Millions of players packed every square inch of the cracked marble floor, forming an unbroken, heavily armed sea of humanity surging forward without an inch of breathing room. The strongest guild leaders from across the globe stood at the front ranks, raising their weapons high with eyes blazing with frantic, psychotic ambition.

"Don't give him a single second to breathe!" screamed Marcus, guild master of Crimson Fang, thrusting his plasma sword toward the throne. "The entire world server is on the verge of collapse! Finish that bug right now before the system pulls the plug on the servers!"

Atop his fractured throne, Valor stood tall. In his right hand, he still gripped the shattered hilt of the Shadow Knight Commander's blade. His dark cloak billowed wildly, whipped by the pressure waves of energy beginning to radiate from his frame. He stared down at the human sea before him without a single flicker of fear.

"You think you are the masters of this world," Valor's deep, booming voice fractured the noise of the hall, shaking the scorched stone walls. "You think our lives and deaths are mere toys for you to buy and destroy as you please."

"What kind of nonsense is that?!" snapped a Mage guild master from the middle ranks, chanting a high-tier magical incantation with his crystal staff. "You're just a clump of corrupted code! Prepare to be wiped from the history of Chronos Online!"

"If that's the case..." Valor grinned sharply, lifting his left hand into the air, letting lines of red code and pure cosmic energy erupt simultaneously from his core. "...let's see if your world can bear the weight of every soul you've ever harvested!"

"Charge!" Marcus roared his command.

BOOM! KABOM! SHAZAM!

The cataclysmic, ultimate battle exploded instantly within the cramped confines of the throne room. Millions of players unleashed their strongest attacks all at once—thousands of plasma cannons, cosmic-grade elemental magic spells, glowing sword arcs, and heavy artillery collided in the exact same second, generating a destructive shockwave capable of fracturing the digital dimension itself.

Facing this absolute bombardment, Valor didn't give an inch. He threw his digital core wide open, releasing the entire accumulated mass of cosmic duplicate data he had harvested from millions of past battles.

A blinding purple-black light burst from Valor's body, swallowing the players' assault whole and reflecting it back a thousandfold. The concussive data wave slammed across the throne room with terrifying fury, pulverizing ancient stone pillars and blasting thousands of players away in a single heartbeat.

Yet the volume of data Valor unleashed vastly exceeded the tolerance thresholds of Chronos Online's digital universe. The central server governing the virtual world began to shriek in agony.

Thousands of miles away in the real world, inside the main control room at Apex Interactive headquarters, the atmosphere plunged into total, apocalypse-grade panic.

"Mr. Vance! Our main server is suffering a catastrophic overload!" Leo shrieked hysterically, springing from his chair as his primary console monitor blew out in a shower of sparks. "The duplicate data capacity Valor is releasing has breached cosmic calculation limits! The server core can't contain it!"

Julian Vance turned pale as a sheet, gripping the conference table with trembling hands. "Cut the global connection! Execute an emergency shutdown right now!"

"It's too late, sir!" Marcus yelled in panic, pointing toward the giant wall monitor currently flickering wildly in a blinding white glare. "The overload chain reaction has already infected the entire global network!"

Back inside the game, a stunning yet terrifying visual spectacle began to tear the virtual reality apart.

The sky over Chronos Online flickered violently at high frequency. The hum of the central server sounded broken and deafening, resembling the dying scream of an engine burning from the inside out. Across the air, digital glass fractures sprouted everywhere, exposing cascading rows of falling binary code.

"What's going on?! Why is my screen flashing red?!" screamed a frontline player, dropping his weapon as his hands began to turn translucent.

"Wait... my server just disconnected! Damn it, I can't move!" his teammate panicked back.

One by one, millions of players inside the throne room—and millions more across the entire world map of Chronos Online—were forcibly disconnected (force disconnected) from their full-dive capsules in the real world as the system collapsed completely under the unmanageable data load.

ZRRR-ZZZT!

Like millions of digital fireflies caught in a gale-force storm, the players' bodies fractured into white light particles, vanishing and scattering out of the game one by one into an enforced silence dictated by the system.

Back in the Apex Interactive control room, every single monitor suddenly went pitch black, leaving only darkness and rising plumes of black smoke amid a suffocating quiet.

Back inside Obsidian Castle, the storm of battle finally faded entirely.

The throne room, moments before packed with millions of humans, fell dead silent. No more savage battle cries, no more hum of plasma weapons. Every player had been forcibly ejected, leaving the virtual world frozen solid.

Amidst the ruined hall littered with broken pillars, the white data glare gradually faded away.

Atop the fractured throne, Valor stood tall with ragged breaths, his human form slowly stabilizing. He scanned the room, now completely empty.

Suddenly, in the corner of the hall, blue light particles sparked softly. From the remnants of data wreckage, the silhouette of the Gatekeeper—previously shattered to pieces at the outer gates—materialized anew, rising slowly with a ragged breath as he gripped his warhammer. Beside him, the few surviving Shadow Knights rose from the pixelated debris, blinking in confusion at the profound stillness blanketing the fortress.

Valor turned, looking upon his loyal subordinates with a thin smile heavy with profound relief.

The storm had passed. Inside a digital universe now quiet and frozen free from corporate interference, they stood as the sole surviving entities—enjoying absolute freedom atop the ruins of a world that could no longer enslave them.
