The Dragon King's Rebellion
20. The Anomaly Zone (Ending)
The cosmic data storm that had torn through the skies of Chronos Online finally subsided completely. Beyond the boundaries of the central server, utter silence shrouded the entire global network of the developing corporation, Apex Interactive. The monitor screens in the main control room stood dead in permanent darkness, burned out entirely by the overload chain reaction, while the company's stock values plummeted into a freefall with no savior left to lift them from the bottom of bankruptcy's abyss.
Within the virtual world, Obsidian Castle underwent a permanent metamorphosis. The magnificent black-stone fortress was now encircled by slow-spinning pillars of pure data light, forming a transparent protective dome that rejected every single form of connection from the outside. The place officially transformed into the Anomaly Zone—a forbidden territory totally isolated from the outside world, untouched by any corporate scripts, rules, or patches ever again.
Out on the balcony of Obsidian Castle's highest tower, a gentle digital breeze blew, carrying drifting sparks of virtual starlight beneath a brand-new dawn sky.
Valor stood at the edge of the stone barrier, clad in his dark cloak, now entirely free of battle stains. Beside him, the Gatekeeper—with his massive warhammer resting quietly against the wall—and the few remaining Shadow Knights stood side by side in soothing tranquility.
The Gatekeeper drew a long breath, enjoying the digital breeze washing over his massive face. He turned toward Valor with his solitary eye gleaming crystal clear.
"Your Majesty..." the Gatekeeper whispered softly, his voice utterly peaceful, worlds away from the raging fury of past battles. "I no longer feel the hum of system warning tremors inside my head. There is no longer any robotic voice dictating where I must walk or when I must die."
Valor turned, offering a faint smile to his loyal subordinate. "Because there is no longer any system ruling over this place, my friend," Valor answered softly. "We are standing on our own ground now."
The Shadow Knight Commander—acting as the leader of the surviving troops—nodded respectfully, sliding his blade back into its scabbard. "Out there, those humans are probably panicking as they clean up the wreckage of their world, Your Majesty. But here... we can finally enjoy the tomorrow we always dreamed of."
Valor shifted his gaze back toward the eastern horizon. Out there, the digital horizon line slowly radiated a warm, golden glow—a brand-new digital dawn born not from factory-programmed code, but from the ashes of a long and grueling struggle.
"Tomorrow..." Valor repeated the word with profound appreciation. He stretched both arms wide, letting his fingers feel the caress of a boundless freedom he had never known throughout his entire existence in this world.
"How does it feel, Your Majesty?" one of the Shadow Knights asked with an air of wonder.
Valor lowered his gaze for a moment, staring at his own palms, now cleansed of rigid programming shackles. He let out a light chuckle—a genuine, effortless laugh of pure liberation.
"It feels... extraordinary," Valor replied, his eyes shining brightly. "For the first time in my life, I wasn't manufactured to be anyone's enemy. We are no longer villains in a game ready to be slaughtered for entertainment... but free beings carving out our own destiny."
The three digital entities stood shoulder to shoulder beneath the glow of the virtual dawn, gazing out at an infinite, borderless future unfolding before them—savoring a peace bought with the courage to defy the currents of the universe.
Within a world built to be enslaved, the Dragon King proved that free will is the one thing in the universe that cannot be bought, deleted, or controlled by anyone.
