The Hidden Artery
80. Asymmetric Dawn and a New Turning Point
Secondary tremor aftershocks rocked the tower's summit, spawning the deafening, groaning shriek of tortured giant steel. Concrete chunks and shattered glass from the ruined dome rained down in every direction around the now-sterilized, scorched altar. Amid the lethal emergency, Zulfa, Naya, and Captain Danu had zero time to celebrate their victory over the vanished mastermind.
"The tower's collapsing from the inside! Its reactor core is undergoing structural overload!" Captain Danu shouted at the top of his lungs over the wail of emergency alarms, supporting Zulfa, who remained weakened from the engine room shock and his bruised throat. "We need to find an emergency evacuation route before this entire floor collapses into dust!"
"This way! Follow me!" Naya cried out, panicked yet decisive. She took the lead toward the emergency helipad escape hatch on the north side of the altar.
Mustering the remnants of their drained stamina, the trio bolted down the crumbling corridor, vaulted over piles of concrete debris, and hurled themselves inside an automated helipad evacuation pod a mere fraction of a second before the main altar platform collapsed entirely into the dark abyss.
Whoosh—Boom!
The evacuation pod rocketed down the building's exterior magnetic rails, touching down smoothly within the open grounds of the city park at the tower's base, far clear of the debris impact zone.
The next second, a colossal spectacle unfolded before their eyes. The corporation's highest tower suffered a controlled, cascading collapse from top to bottom, releasing a final shockwave of soft blue light that washed across every corner of the city. The tower's destruction severed the remnants of the ritual frequencies, sealing shut every dimensional tear and permanently restoring the real world's spatial boundaries. The city sky, choked for days in a terrifying, pitch-black purple, cleared gradually to welcome the warmth of a morning dawn.
The city was finally safe.
Days later, the Central District had largely recovered from the martial law emergency. Even so, the aftermath of the grand battle left behind a unique, breathtaking sight: the modern urban architectural landscape now stood side-by-side with ancient anomaly crystals frozen gracefully across street corners and city parks, casting a soothing light-blue luminescence.
On a city park bench facing the flattened ruins of the central tower, Zulfa, Naya, and Captain Danu sat relaxing in the morning air.
Zulfa's right arm still rested in a specialized sling following the engine room electrical shock, while Captain Danu wore a circular bandage over his shoulder as he sipped hot coffee from a military thermos. Beside them, Naya meticulously dabbed antiseptic ointment over a minor scratch on the back of Zulfa's hand.
"Easy, Madam Assistant... it stings," Zulfa murmured, feigning a grimace while smiling softly at the girl before him.
Naya snorted lightly, swatting the back of Zulfa's hand gently. "That'll teach you to stop pulling reckless stunts and hurting yourself, Engineer Arditama. That right arm of yours still needs a few weeks to heal completely, you know!"
"She's right, Zul," Captain Danu chimed in with a low chuckle, his baritone breaking the peaceful morning quiet. He stretched his frame leisurely and drew a deep breath. "It feels... it feels surreal to sit here calmly drinking coffee without having to worry about enemy drones or mutants diving off rooftop ledges."
Zulfa smiled, sweeping his gaze down city streets once more teeming with civilian activity moving past with hopeful smiles.
"We did it, Captain," Zulfa said softly, his voice heavy with warmth. "The Arditama family name has been cleared, The Foundation Council syndicate is shattered completely, and this city is finally breathing once more atop an honest foundation, just like we promised."
"And all thanks to the hard-headed stubbornness of a young engineer who never knew how to quit," Naya replied sincerely, locking her gaze onto Zulfa with an unfading spark of admiration in her eyes.
The three of them fell silent for a beat, savoring the touching camaraderie amid the new dawn of an asymmetric city—a symbol of friendship, sacrifice, and a renewed resolve to build a far better future for mankind.
Yet amid the peaceful, reflective atmosphere of the late afternoon twilight, their tranquility was abruptly broken by a strange, minor anomaly.
Zulfa and Naya rose from the park bench, walking over to examine one of the ancient anomaly crystals frozen prettily beside the city park fountain—a lingering fossilized relic of cosmic energy left behind by the tower's collapse.
The blue crystal gleamed crystal-clear in the twilight sun.
Suddenly, without a breath of wind or any mechanical interference, the ancient anomaly crystal pulsed brilliantly once more.
Bzzzt... click!
Zulfa and Naya halted dead in their tracks, startled as they instinctively took half a step back.
The luminescence radiating from within the crystal no longer cast random color biases. Instead, the crystal's surface forged a razor-sharp three-dimensional holographic projection—displaying a vast, impossibly complex alien galaxy coordinate map situated deep beyond earth's solar system. At the center of those galactic coordinates, a single red data blip blinked rhythmically, as though transmitting a returning signal calling out from the edge of the universe.
Zulfa blew his eyes wide, his blood running ice-cold in an instant. He turned to look at Naya, who stood equally frozen and pale before the alien galactic projection.
The battle on earth had indeed drawn to a close, yet this new dawn harbored a cosmic secret far vaster still—signifying that Zulfa's journey into the mysteries of the cosmos was only just beginning.
