The Hidden Artery

92. The Mysterious Shipping Container

The purplish-blue glow from the cosmic geometric carvings across the weathered shipping container's exterior walls pulsed rhythmically, casting the silhouettes of Zulfa and Naya against the damp, dew-slicked concrete of the pier. A brisk sea breeze whipped past, carrying the heavy tang of salt mixed with the sharp scent of ozone from the localized anomaly energy friction around them.

Zulfa stood right before the double doors of the container, which appeared fused seamlessly with hardened, anomaly-melted concrete. He examined the massive, rusted iron latches locked tight by an ancient mechanical encryption system integrated with quantum circuitry.

"Can you open it, Zul?" Naya asked with a trace of curiosity, holding her spectral scanner close to the container door seam. "The locking mechanism looks primitive from the outside, but the magnetic field fluctuations inside are intensely dense."

"Give me a second," Zulfa replied calmly. He reached into his tactical pocket, pulling out a specialized Aether-Tech scanner equipped with a blue optical lens.

Zulfa pressed the scanner tip directly against the core of the geometric grooves on the iron door's surface. His fingers danced agilely, punching out lines of decryption override code across a portable holographic panel hovering in mid-air.

Bzzzt—click! Click... clank!

The sharp, grinding mechanical shriek of shifting internal gears pierced the quiet harbor night. The giant magnetic bolts securing the container doors slowly disengaged, releasing a high-pressure hiss of frigid vapor from the parting seams.

Naya fanned away the billowing cold vapor with one hand. "Well, the decryption system responded instantly. But something feels off, Zul..."

"You're right, Naya," Zulfa agreed gravely, pulling open the heavy iron door handle slowly until it swung wide. "This ozone scent... and the quantum circuit patterns inside... this doesn't match the technology standards of The Foundation Council corporation we used to smash."

The moment the double doors parted completely, internal luminescence spilled outward to wash across both their faces. Within the spacious cargo hold of the container sat a neat array of ancient hybrid technologies never recorded in any corporate archive.

These devices took the form of transparent crystal cylindrical tubes holding a glowing liquid, linked by synthetic neural cables to a massive central computer core floating weightless at the room's center.

Naya widened her eyes, stepping a few paces inside the container to inspect the rows of hardware in spellbound wonder. "Good grief... look at those crystal circuit components, Zul! This blends modern mechanical engineering architecture with Arkian civilizational genetic blueprints. I've never seen device designs this complex in any corporate database!"

Zulfa stepped in beside her, flipping his scanner into deep analysis mode. He swept the blue scanning beam down the container's interior walls, checking each modular component one by one.

"Structural analysis points to something far more alarming," Zulfa said in a serious tone, his brow furrowed deep. "These hybrid devices weren't built to level a city or trigger dimensional storms like Vian Pratama's old experiments. These components were engineered specifically to... store and replicate intergalactic consciousness memories."

Naya turned to look at Zulfa, her curiosity laced with a sudden swell of dread. "Replicate intergalactic consciousness? You mean this container functions like a mini transmission relay station hidden right here in the old harbor?"

"Exactly," Zulfa replied, nodding slowly. "And that brings us to the most fundamental question: If The Foundation Council corporation is entirely shattered and its executives eliminated, who purposely smuggled hybrid tech this expensive and intricate into an abandoned harbor corner?"

Silence dropped heavily inside the container. Their tactical discussion drifted toward a far more hazardous possibility.

"Do you think..." Naya murmured softly, hugging her jacket tight, "...this means remnants of the corporate faction haven't been completely wiped out?"

"Highly probable," Zulfa stated firmly. He stared down at his portable scanner screen processing internal data straight from the container's central computer. "Vian Pratama was merely one face of a much larger syndicate. It's entirely possible that a shadow faction within the corporation laid out contingency plans long before their primary tower collapsed."

"If that theory holds true, the threat to our city hasn't truly ended yet, Zul," Naya hissed with growing concern. "They might be regrouping from hidden staging grounds just like this."

"That's precisely why the Boundary Monitoring Department was founded, Naya," Zulfa reassured her, turning to offer a reassuring, faint smile. "We won't let them wreck the new dawn we've worked so desperately hard to build."

Zulfa refocused his attention back on the container's central computer console. He plugged his portable scanner cable straight into the machine's primary data slot to pull residual activity log files stored within its internal memory.

Bzzzt—Zzzzt!

Zulfa's portable scanner screen flashed bright. Lines of data text cascaded rapidly across the display, tracking the device's last access history.

Yet mid-extraction, the central computer's security system abruptly flared with warning red lights.

Beep... beep... beep!

"WARNING: DATA EXTRACTION ATTEMPT DETECTED EMERGENCY ENCRYPTION PROTOCOL," an automated system voice chimed from Zulfa's scanner.

Naya stepped closer, tense, peering at the scanner screen. "Zul, there's an automated password encryption attempting to wipe the final file!"

"I'll sever its firewall before the data is scrubbed," Zulfa growled swiftly, his fingers flying across the holographic keyboard, throwing his full decoding expertise into breaching the system's defenses.

Click... clank!

Right a fraction of a second before the computer system wiped its data clean, Zulfa punched through the final defensive layer and locked the remaining activity log file onto the screen.

Naya and Zulfa froze in place, reading the final line of text glowing brightly across the scanner display.

That final encrypted data file cited no old corporate name, nor any standard military code. The document bore a single classified project title written in bold capital letters:

"PROJECT GENESIS"
