The Hidden Artery
96. Valley of Eternal Mist
A profound silence gripped the cabin of the armored tactical vehicle after the hybrid engine died a forced death. The center console screen, which had blazed with light moments prior, plunged into absolute darkness, leaving only the sound of bated breath from Zulfa, Naya, and Captain Danu. Outside the windshield, giant ancient stone pillars drifted slowly through the air, ringed by a natural vortex of magnetic fields shimmering like a silvery-blue curtain of light.
Naya ran her fingers across her dead handheld tablet, then turned to look at Zulfa with a furrowed brow. "Our electrical and navigation systems are totally paralyzed, Zul. The magnetic field in this valley isn't man-made—it's a natural quantum defense shield deliberately dampening all forms of modern electromagnetic waves."
Zulfa nodded slowly, unbuckling his safety harness and reaching for his tactical jacket. "Meaning our digital tech is useless here. We continue on foot."
"A wonderfully classic choice," Captain Danu chimed in with a thin smirk, grabbing his rifle and checking his hybrid ammo magazine. "Let's see what other secrets the Arkian ancestors have stashed behind this thick fog."
The three of them pushed open the vehicle doors and stepped out onto the valley floor. The moment their boots touched the earth, a strange, soothing warmth pulsed up through the soles of their feet, neutralizing the chill of the mountain air. The valley was known as the Valley of Eternal Mist—a hidden region cloaked in dense white fog, yet radiating a mesmerizing display of geometric light from its heart.
Guided on foot by instinct and Captain Danu's ancient mechanical compass, they pushed through the curtain of thick mist for several hundred meters. Slowly, the silhouette of colossal architecture began piercing the fog before them.
"Good grief..." Naya whispered, halting her stride to gaze upward in wonder.
Before them lay a vista of breathtaking magnificence: the ruined ancient stone temple of the Arkian civilization. The temple was built from black megalithic stones etched with intricately detailed geometric light patterns. Towering pillars reached upward to support an open-air dome framing the mountain sky, and across every stone wall, softly glowing reliefs radiated a calming cosmic energy.
"The architecture of this temple..." Zulfa breathed in awe, stepping up to a temple wall and tracing the geometric carvings lightly with his left hand. "This isn't merely a place of worship or an ancient shrine, Naya. The proportions and placement of these pillars were engineered as a... natural earth satellite gate."
"A natural satellite gate?" Naya repeated, walking beside Zulfa as she scanned the sprawling temple hall. "You mean this place functions to transmit and receive signal waves straight out into space without artificial satellite tech?"
"Precisely," Zulfa answered. "The Arkians used this temple as earth's primary cosmic relay station thousands of years ago."
Captain Danu kept watch over the sweeping temple plaza, his rifle at the ready. "If this place is a cosmic relay station, then where's the second signal source we hunted down from yesterday's Project Genesis data? Is there a hidden chamber inside this temple?"
"Let's check the main altar at the far end of the hall," Zulfa suggested, leading the way past the rows of majestic stone pillars.
The visual exploration of the Arkian temple was a feast for the eyes and a constant source of wonder. At the center of the temple's perfect circular main altar stood no god statue or throne. Instead, embedded atop a massive black stone altar slab was an unbroken, ancient geometric disc relay, ringed by quantum metal bands that hovered stably without touching the stone surface.
Naya approached the relay disc, studying the slow-pulsing streaks of light across its surface. "This is the source of that second signal anomaly, Zul. This relay disc is still broadcasting cosmic energy linked to the outer galaxy."
"And it's completely intact, as though it were serviced just yesterday," Zulfa added, staring in wonder at the disc's mechanics.
Zulfa stepped closer to the main altar. Curiosity mingled with a strange genetic resonance coiled tight within his chest. Without conscious thought, he reached out his left hand and brushed his fingers across the surface of the ancient cosmic relay disc.
Whoosh—Whoosh!
The instant Zulfa's left hand made contact with the disc, it activated instantly.
A brilliant burst of blue light erupted from the disc's circular engravings, forging a large three-dimensional holographic projection above the temple altar. Soft, melodic frequency waves echoed across the quiet expanse of the temple hall.
Naya and Captain Danu jolted in shock, dropping back a step into a defensive stance. "Zul! Careful!" Naya warned.
Yet Zulfa didn't budge an inch. He stared spellbound at the light projection before him.
From within the holographic radiance, a silhouette entity woven from geometric light—the exact same figure he had encountered in the transcendental dimension when his life hung in the balance deep within the earth's belly—reappeared with a welcoming aura.
A calm, wise, and profoundly warm voice filled the temple air, greeting them directly:
"Welcome back, Young Engineer... Envoy of earth. It gladdens me to see your foundation still standing tall upon this beautiful world."
