The Underrated Son-in-Law

15. Wrath of the Emperor

The emergency wing of Nexus Global’s private hospital was heavily guarded by a dozen men in black suits with earpieces fitted tightly. Not a single outsider was permitted anywhere near the floor. Aris sat in the waiting area, his shirt still stained with Bella’s dried blood. He hadn't shifted positions since an hour ago, his eyes fixed with lethal intensity on the tightly closed operating room doors.

The aura surrounding him was so suffocating that the medical staff walked on tiptoes, terrified of making the slightest sound. Aris was no longer a calm, composed man; he was a volcano on the verge of eruption.

"Sir," Andi approached with cautious, measured steps. He held a tablet displaying live GPS tracking data. "Baron and his syndicate have been detected moving toward their hideout on the outskirts of the city. They are attempting to flee the country."

Aris stood up. His movement was agonizingly slow, yet every muscle in his body strained tight. He didn't look at Andi; instead, he stared at his own reflection in the window, where the silhouette of a murderer stared back.

"One hour," Aris said coldly, his voice sounding like a blade unsheathing from its scabbard.

"Sir?"

"I am giving you one hour to erase Baron and every asset belonging to the Black Lotus off the map entirely," Aris turned around, his eyes burning with an uncontainable fury. "No more negotiations. No more laws. If they lay a hand on Bella, they no longer reserve the right to breathe another breath of air in this world."

"Orders received, Sir," Andi bowed respectfully before immediately issuing instructions into his communicator.

Out there, in the dark underbelly of the city, the private war machine of Nexus Global sprang into action. Aris wasn't merely a CEO; he controlled a private security apparatus staffed by elite former special forces operatives. Within minutes, surveillance drones locked onto Baron's exact coordinates. A tactical assault team armed to the teeth was already in position, awaiting the final authorization from their ruler.

Meanwhile, inside an isolated concrete warehouse, Baron was frantically clearing out crucial documents. His hands were shaking violently. He realized he had made a catastrophic error by shedding that woman's blood.

"Damn it! We need to move right now!" Baron shouted at his men. "That man... he isn't a normal businessman! He's a monster!"

Suddenly, the warehouse lights went pitch black. A deadly silence blanketed the room. The next second, a series of muted pops echoed near the entrance as thick smoke billowed into the space.

BOOM!

The heavy steel door shattered instantly. Through the haze, shadowed figures emerged with terrifying precision. There were no shouts, no warnings. They were phantoms arriving to harvest souls.

Baron tried to squeeze his pistol's trigger, but a powerful grip clamped down on his wrist from behind.

CRACK!

The bones in his wrist shattered in a split second, sending his firearm clattering onto the floor.

"A message from Mr. Aris," a man whispered in a bone-chilling tone.

Back in the hospital waiting area, Aris received a brief notification on his tablet: Target 100% neutralized. Black Lotus assets burned to the ground. No witnesses.

Aris closed the tablet gently. His rage had not subsided, but he knew the threat to Bella’s life was officially gone. He looked up just as the operating room doors swung open. A surgeon stepped out with a composed expression.

"Report," Aris demanded curtly.

"The bullet was successfully extracted, Sir. The round only grazed the muscle in her arm, missing the bone entirely. Miss Bella will regain consciousness within a few hours," the surgeon reported.

Aris exhaled a long, heavy breath, feeling the crushing weight on his chest lift slightly. He walked into the private room where Bella lay. She looked impossibly fragile against the crisp white sheets, her left arm neatly bandaged.

Aris sat by the bedside. He took her free hand, pressing his lips to the back of her knuckles with deep longing. He had become a cold man, an enemy to those he once cared for, and he had trodden a blood-soaked path to reach his throne. But looking at Bella lying there, he knew that all the power in the world meant nothing if she wasn't by his side.

"I took care of them," Aris whispered softly near Bella’s ear. "No one will ever hurt you again. I will tear the world down if that is what it takes to keep you safe."

He stared at Bella’s peaceful, sleeping face. He knew that after tonight, everything was going to change. He could no longer hide his darker side. When Bella woke up, she might look at him differently—perhaps as a hero, or perhaps as a man too dangerous to love.

Yet, Aris didn't care. He was prepared to bear her hatred, so long as she remained alive. He had transformed from a broken husband into a merciless protector.

Aris stood up and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling hospital window overlooking the city skyline. Far below, the soaring skyscrapers looked tiny, as though resting entirely within his grasp. He had won the corporate war, he had exacted his vengeance, and tonight, he had secured the life of the person he loved most.

Still, he knew that the true battle was only just beginning—the battle to reclaim Bella’s heart, which he had shattered with his own web of lies.

"I will give you everything, Bella," he murmured, his eyes locking onto the distant horizon. "Even if I have to destroy myself in the process."
