A Mortal Challenges the World of Gods
14. Legacy of the Ancient Sky Sovereign
The name Ye Tian now echoed across every corner of the lower Immortal Realm like a sudden bolt of thunder from a clear sky. His feat of crippling senior outer disciples and Senior Huo's personal bodyguards without using a single strand of Qi forced the upper echelons of the Cloud Sword Sect to grant him complete freedom. No one dared touch him again. However, Ye Tian knew that his lack of official recognition within the inner circle left him utterly isolated.
That mattered little to him. In fact, he used this freedom to venture deep into the forbidden floors of the Technique Library, which he had successfully accessed after his display of absolute power in Judgment Square. Hidden in a forgotten corner of the library, inside a near-decayed wooden box, Ye Tian found no spell scriptures; instead, he discovered a piece of ancient beast parchment radiating a hidden, pulsing heat.
It was a secret map leading to the Ancient Tomb of Sky Sovereign Cang—a legendary ancient body cultivator rumored to have severed external dimensions through the sheer strength of his fists alone.
"Severing dimensions through pure physical force..." Ye Tian’s eyes flashed with a golden glint in the darkness of the library. "This is it. This is the clue I need to return home."
Wasting no time, with the half-bag of rice securely bound to the waist of his simple gray robe, Ye Tian slipped away from the sect that very night, heading toward the Divine Bone Mountains located at the western edge of the Immortal Realm.
That evening, the Divine Bone Mountains were shrouded in a blood-red aura. By the time Ye Tian arrived at the coordinates marked on the ancient parchment, space itself had already warped, forming a colossal vortex of surging energy that collapsed the surrounding stone cliffs. The entrance to the Ancient Tomb had opened naturally, unleashing a pillar of divine light that soared straight into the clouds.
Yet, Ye Tian was not alone. This heavenly phenomenon had drawn the foremost geniuses from various major sects.
Hovering outside the turbulent entrance were dozens of floating divine carriages, accompanied by high-tier spiritual beasts ridden by elite cultivators. Among the gathered crowd stood the contingent from the Cloud Sword Sect. At their head was Senior Huo, looking about with unbridled arrogance, and beside him stood the elegant figure of Lady Mei.
Mei Ling—Lady Mei—wore a snow-white battle dress, gripping a Silver Lotus Sword that exhaled a bone-chilling aura. When her clear eyes caught sight of Ye Tian walking forward in his humble gray outer disciple robes, her brow creased slightly. She could no longer hide her shock as she sensed his physical presence—now so solid and imposing, vastly different from the "mortal pest" who had once desperately clung to her waist.
"You... actually dared to come here, Ye Tian?" Lady Mei’s cold voice cut through the silence, drawing the eyes of rival sect geniuses toward him.
Senior Huo glared at Ye Tian with bloodthirsty venom the moment he saw him. "Insolent brat! You were fortunate the elders protected you at the sect after you injured my men. But inside this Ancient Tomb, no sect law exists to save your neck!"
Ye Tian didn't even bother looking at Senior Huo. His gaze locked directly onto Lady Mei’s eyes. "I have no interest in your thrones or magical treasures. I came here for only one thing: a way to cut open the path back down. And anyone who stands in my way... will be crushed."
"How arrogant!" a genius from the Heavenly Fire Sect laughed mockingly. "A mere Qi-less body cultivator dares to challenge us inside an ancient tomb?"
BOOM!
Before the argument could escalate, the ancient tomb's portal shuddered violently, unleashing a shockwave that shattered the outer protective formation. The energy vortex began pulling in everything nearby.
"The gate is open! Enter!" Senior Huo roared.
Geniuses from every sect shot forward like streaks of lightning, scrambling to be the first to enter the dark corridors of the ancient tomb. Ye Tian refused to be left behind. Pushing off the ground with pure physical force—a step so powerful it cracked the earth of the Divine Bone Mountains—he launched himself forward like a cannonball, plunging straight into the darkness of the tomb.
Inside the Ancient Tomb of Sky Sovereign Cang, the structure resembled an underground labyrinth constructed from prehistoric black metal. The gravitational pressure was a hundred times heavier than outside, leaving spell-casting geniuses accustomed to flying via Qi gasping for air and forced to trek forward with immense difficulty.
Yet for Ye Tian, who practiced Mortal Body Cultivation, this oppressive gravity felt like a breath of fresh air, stimulating his muscle fibers to awaken with even greater vigor. He sprinted effortlessly past traps of firing energy arrows and crumbling stone pillars.
Eventually, Ye Tian reached the tomb's Main Hall. In the center of the vast chamber, hovering above a stone altar encircled by giant chains, was a dark-gold scroll emitting violent spatial ripples: The Ancient Sky-Severing Scripture.
"There it is!" Senior Huo and the Cloud Sword Sect party arrived almost simultaneously from a different corridor. Senior Huo's eyes burned red with sheer greed.
However, the altar was guarded by dozens of Ancient Metal Guardian Statues with glowing red eyes, each radiating power equivalent to the peak of the Foundation Establishment Realm.
"Attack together! Claim that scripture!" Senior Huo barked to his group. Geniuses from rival sects charged forward as well, sparking a chaotic battle inside the hall. Spells of fire, lightning, and sword strikes clashed against the iron fists of the guardian statues.
Amidst the chaos, Lady Mei moved like a silver shadow. Utilizing her body's flexibility and ice sword arts, she wove past the line of guardian statues and leaped straight toward the stone altar, reaching her hand out to grasp the Sky-Severing Scripture.
Yet from the shadows of the high ceiling, a ten-meter-tall colossal guardian statue wielding a spiked mace plummeted downward at terrifying speed, aiming straight for Lady Mei's unprotected head while she was airborne.
"Sister Mei, watch out!" Senior Huo shouted from a distance, but he was pinned down by three other statues and could not reach her in time.
Lady Mei’s eyes widened as she felt the overwhelming sensation of impending death. Under the extreme gravitational pull of the tomb, she couldn't shift her trajectory in midair fast enough.
WHOOSH—BOOM!
A gray shadow shot forward faster than natural lightning. Ye Tian appeared directly atop the altar, standing in front of Lady Mei. With a remarkably serene expression and eyes burning with an intense golden light, Ye Tian pulled his right fist back, allowing his arm muscles to expand with dense power, and drove his bare fist straight into the giant statue's iron mace.
CRASH! BLAAAM!
Ye Tian’s strike of pure physical force detonated a shockwave that pulverized the ancient iron mace and the entire god-tier statue into a shower of metallic dust in a single blow.
The impact of the blast sent Lady Mei falling backward, but she was caught seamlessly by Ye Tian’s left arm, which was as sturdy as an iron reef. For the second time in a long while, Lady Mei found herself held within the physical embrace of the young man she had once deemed a worthless mortal pest.
Ye Tian looked down at her breathtaking face, now pale and frozen in shock. A cold smile touched his lips.
"I told you, Lady Mei," Ye Tian whispered, his voice deep and heavy with an oppressive physical majesty, while his right hand casually retrieved the Ancient Sky-Severing Scripture from the altar. "Anyone who stands in the way of my return home... will be destroyed. Including this ancient legacy."
