Call of Lightning

16. Elf Kingdom, Tegret Forest (Chapter One)

Aeera began a long journey. She parted ways with the teachers and students from Crypton Academy. Aeera, Yuhas, and Kenan led the journey.

"Lord Kalandra... I've become proficient enough to control divine mana."

"Really?" Kenan slowed his pace, taking the lead.

"Yes, the artifact Uncle Kai gave me and Master Yuhas's training in mana control have allowed me to sense mana energy well."

"That's great!"

Kenan thanked Yuhas for helping Aeera master her mana.

"It's my duty, Lord Kalandra. I was sent to protect Princess Aeera and help her find the Golden Compass and the Ultimate Weapon."

They began to get along. They began walking, and the long journey left them quite tired. Kenan studied the map Uncle Kai had given them, and they passed through a small forest, past a river that flowed in two colors.

Their journey was not easy: the monster Yorak, a lion monster with three large horns, was a threat. Yuhas prepared, but Kenan met him with his devastating blow. They encountered several other monsters in the forest, but Kenan eliminated them all. Aeera knew they wouldn't be able to get past Lord Kalandra.

They saw a long river. Yuhas used his magic to create a transparent bridge. They could cross it.

Brush!

A giant fish monster emerged from the water, its mouth so large that it tried to swallow the three of them.

"Not now, leave us alone!" Kenan shouted, jumping to face the monster in midair.

Kenan spun around and punched the monster in the stomach. The monster was thrown a great distance, rolling in the forest, never to get up again. Yuhas shook his head. This was the first time he had seen a summoned creature capable of speech, self-determination, and even defeating a formidable foe with ease. This, of course, had never happened in their world.

"Where do you come from, Lord Kalandra?" Yuhas asked curiously.

Kenan smiled, "I come from Earth."

"Earth?" Yuhas was curious, "We also come from Earth, Master. This is the land we live on."

Yuhas's statement made Kenan frown. Indeed, he had never asked Aeera what the world surrounded by witches was like.

"My Earth is different from yours," Kenan said. This was because he had obtained a copy of a map from the blacksmith Kai, showing that of all the continents in the world, there were only two large ones. There were no continents in his world, like Europe, Asia, or even Africa, or any of the others.

"A different Earth?" Aeera suddenly replied, looking up at the clear sky. "Perhaps you come from where my mother is now, Master Kalandra. My mother is no longer in this world; perhaps she is in your world. How... I wish I could go to your world, Master Kalandra."

Kenan smiled. Aeera longed to see a world other than one filled with monsters and demons. Perhaps those in this world yearned for peace and did not want to be consumed by the fear of being constantly hunted by monsters and demons.

"I promise you both," said Kenan, "I will liberate your world and bring peace to this world. All humans here must have peace, and I will end the hegemony of demons and monsters. I promise in the name of God!"

Kenan raised his right hand, his fingers forming a solemn promise.

"God? Who is God, Lord Kalandra?" Yuhas asked, curious. All this time, he only knew that demons and monsters controlled all human life.

"God..., God..." Kenan thought for a moment. Did no one in this world know who God was?

"God is the One who created all things. He is the One who sustains life throughout this universe!" Kenan said firmly. He then remembered that he had forgotten God all this time. He was only sad and felt the world was unfair. He was always afraid in his room and cursed everyone.

"He who created and sustains the universe?" Aeera seemed thoughtful, "Here, everyone considers the sun to be the One who sustains life. He is powerful and protects everything! Most humans worship and pray to the sun!

So that's how it is... this world considers the sun to be the place to pray.

"In my place, the sun was created and sustained by God. He sustains life, and all that is within his power!"

Aeera and Yuhas pondered this.

"Lord Kalandra," Aeera said, "If I pray to God, will he grant my request?"

"Of course, Aeera! What is your request?" Kenan asked curiously.

Aeera walked over to Kenan and looked him in the eye. Their eyes met, and Kenan became nervous.

"I don't want anything, Lord Kalandra. God has taken my mother, and I have no one in this world. So, when Lord Kalandra returns home, please ask God to banish demons and monsters from this world. I don't want any child in this world to suffer the same fate as me. Losing their mother. That's enough for me to experience."

Kenan was trembling. His hands were shaking. Aeera, a sixteen-year-old girl, could still smile and make such a noble request. She missed her mother so much and didn't want anyone else to experience what she had. Meanwhile, he had a mother who loved him so much.

Kenan was silent for a long moment, Aeera's eyes still fixed on Kenan.

"Can you ask God for that request, Lord Kalandra?" Aeera's voice startled Kenan out of his reverie.

"Yes... Aeera. Yes... of course. When I return home, I will ask God for peace in your world."

"Thank you, Lord Kalandra, I'm very happy to hear that."

Sruk!

Aeera's soft laughter and tears filled her face, and she suddenly hugged Kenan. Yuhas stood guard on the other side. Kenan unconsciously moved his hands and gently held Aeera's shoulders. Kenan looked up at the bright sky.
