Legend of the Lightning Strike
18. Attack in the Fog
Two other people approached Aji; they were Lao and Gayatri.
"I told you. We'll definitely meet again, Aji," Lao approached Aji and Barsha, along with Gayatri. They were the four of them, while the others had gathered and formed their own groups.
There were 40 groups in total, with Nagada's group being the largest. Arion, Astro, and several others were also present. A total of 1,002 participants were registered to take part in this second test. They had all been assigned groups, having been created through a brief gathering.
"Your time is up! The second test will begin soon. As in the beginning, I only ordered you to form groups or teams. However, that's not the point. This time, the mission is to survive, and whoever survives will pass the second test. With or without a group!"
So, there's no point in forming groups? Everyone asked.
"Having a group is certainly better, where you can work together. However, be mindful of your group. They can benefit you or simply become leeches on your behalf."
Everyone grew silent as they listened to Yarko's warning.
"For this second test, I will surrender to my colleague, Chief Gonan. He will be the one leading the process. Chief Gonan, I invite you to enter the Colosseum!"
Everyone was curious about Chief Gonan, the person who installed the Array in the first test, and an important figure in Prisma City. He had already left. Aji immediately spotted him. He was an eighth-level mage. Certainly, his powers were immense.
Chief Gonan emerged from one of the windows on the upper wall of the Colosseum. He descended with the power of his body and landed gracefully near Yarko.
Gonan thanked his friend Yarko for giving him the time to take over the upcoming second test.
Chief Gonan now faced all the participants on the steps from which he had descended. He held out his palms, as some of the test takers seemed to be looking at their idols.
Gonan glanced around at the many people taking the second test. There were two of his students there, Astro and Alicia. Astro himself had been his student for a long time. Alicia was indeed his student, but she only provided guidance at the direct request of the government on the continent of Orpris. Of course, Alicia was Yonan's granddaughter.
"The second test, as Chairman Yarko said. This is a survival mission, I reiterate. This is an important note for all of you. We have inserted dozens of people into this group! They are tasked with incapacitating you once the second test begins. So, you must be careful."
Gonan's words immediately made the participants exchange glances. Even with the newly formed team, they began to suspect something.
Indeed, there was no guarantee that the number of participants would be exactly 1,002. It was uncertain, and the sheer number was so large that it was impossible to count them exactly. Now, everyone was suspicious and trying to determine which of them had been tasked with incapacitating the participants.
"Anyone who cannot survive this Colossus will be declared a failure!"
Leader Gonan's words were, of course, an ultimatum: this mission was an open battle. Not a team battle, but rather a personal battle to survive and pass the second test.
However, having a team that understood each other would make this test easier, as each team would strive to protect their teammates and fight together. Unfortunately, they didn't know who the warrior had infiltrated to attack them from within.
Gayatri listened intently to Leader Gonan's words. She channeled her energy to the top of her head and focused on using her eye abilities.
"Have you discovered something, little sister?" Lao asked her sister. Aji and Barsha were also curious about Gayatri's abilities with her eyes.
"I see their energy flow and colors. I sense their numbers are indeed over 1,000, possibly even up to 70. This means the examiners have included some of us in this contest."
Lao nodded, "Yes, fortunately,y we formed a small team. This means the four of us won't have any examiners who would launch a surprise attack on us."
The participants listened to Leader Gonan's explanation again, raising both hands.
"Alright! If you understand, then prepare yourselves. Hold on, and don't fall and be thrown out of this Colossus! The second test, here we go!"
Everyone fell silent, prepared for any situation. Each of the Heavenly Troops was even suspicious of their own teammates, drawing their weapons and preparing for battle.
Leader Gonan raised both hands, energy enveloping them. A flash of energy lightning flickered above his head. Everyone wondered if it was an attack meant to strike them.
If that happened, they'd face attacks from all sides, wouldn't they?
Unfortunately, their assumption was wrong. Leader Gonan seemed to form a cloud above his head. It was thick and dense. Leader Gonan blew the cloud from above, filling the floor of the Colosseum where the Sky Squad participants were.
Woohoo!
The atmosphere became slightly blurry, like walking through fog. Visibility was immediately impaired, and even seeing five meters ahead was now quite difficult. Some warriors used their magical abilities, if they possessed them, to disperse the fog around them.
Others emitted fire or light from their energy, trying to dispel the darkness of the fog.
Aji and his four teammates could still see each other because they were close.
For a larger team, they would quickly break up their formation because they no longer had such limited visibility. Ultimately, they would only have to worry about themselves in this second test.
However, some participants were shouting for each other to come closer;r, no one knew whose voice it was. Leader Gonan smiled, "Endure every attack. I'll lift this fog in two hours. So, try your best to pass this second test!"
Gonan's voice stopped, and with it began the sounds of battle. Weapons, blows, everything suddenly clinked. Screams of pain and clashing magic clashed. Missing targets inevitably filled the Colosseum. Even the spectators above couldn't see the battle. Only the screams, the clashing of weapons, and the clashing of energy.
Vision blurred, and smoke billowed. In the darkness of the fog, new energy attacks emerged. However, few noticed. Aji saw that, in addition to the people assigned to enter and mingle with the participants, there were also warriors with headdresses entering through the doors in the Colosseum walls. They charged with assassin skills and charged at the participants.
Triing! Traang! Boom! Duag! Hiaaaattt!
Attacks from within and from without. Aji understood the attacks; the Celestial Army's test was indeed very strict. This is a kind of learning experience, where attacks from within are traitors. And the Assassins' groans are clear enemy attacks. Those with the mental fortitude and ability will not be fooled by this test.
