Legend of the Lightning Strike
19. Immobilizing Participants in the Fog
The atmosphere was uncontrollable. The view was dark and clouded by the energy released by Chairman Gonan. However, this was nothing to Gayatri's eyes. She clearly saw the source of the energy blazing from someone's internal energy.
Even with her eyes closed, Gayatri could see the movements of others because she could sense the energy. Likewise, when the warriors had just entered through the doors in the Colosium wall.
The energies clashed, indicating that someone had been assigned to immobilize them. Attacks and clashes occurred. Some of the energy from someone's body appeared to fall to the floor. A special team immediately went back in and picked up the fallen body, carrying it back to the nearby Colosium wall door.
This was the meaning of this test: survival. And this was a test of real combat, a sparring match. This was a real fight to immobilize each other.
"Guys, be careful and pay attention to your surroundings. They're coming from all directions and launching a surprise attack," Gayatri reminded the others.
Aji understood, as he also sensed the energy swirling around him. "Take a back-to-back position, protect the companion next to you."
Although it was their first time fighting together, Aji's words were true. They immediately took back-to-back positions, facing each other. Aji, Lao, Gayatri, and Barsha. All four sides, ready to support each other.
Everyone was ready; the attackers were well aware of this, as they were equipped with goggles, an artifact that allowed them to see through the energy fog created by Gonan.
An energy wave came, a long-range attack from above. The attackers were approaching and about to slam into Aji and his companions.
Gayatri realized this, "From above, to the left. Two people are attacking!" Gayatri's words indicated that the two people were coming from the upper left, meaning they were targeting the women first, since Gayatri and Barsha were there.
Thanks to Gayatri's information, Barsha had an easier time detecting the direction of the attack. Barsha was also a level 7 assassin. At the very least, the attackers were likely on par with her.
An attack was coming. Was that a sword blade? The glint seemed to be filled with energy. Barsha deflected one. Because of its proximity, she noticed the attacker was wearing a black hoodie and a wooden sword was pointed at her.
Is that an assassin? Huh, for those who want to hide. Does that mean we're being attacked by examiners? Barsha thought.
That was Barsha's question, while next to her, Gayatri blocked a wooden sword attack with an energy knife. The assassin's attack was blocked by the blade's energy and was a meter away. They couldn't continue their attack on Gayatri.
Gayatri used only her hands to control the energy weapon.
"Gayatri, be careful!" Lao warned Gayatri.
"Don't worry, Sis!" Gayatri waved her right hand, sending the attacker flying back into the darkness. They prepared for another surprise attack.
Meanwhile, Barsha was still clashing swords with the hooded assassin, who had a mask covering his mouth. Due to the close range, Barsha was able to deflect all of the assassin's attacks. The Assassin's attack couldn't even hurt Barsha. In fact, when the gap opened, Barsha kicked the attacker in the stomach, sending him flying backward.
The attackers vanished again, as the dense fog enveloped them. The four who had formed the formation returned; Aji and his companions, facing away from each other, returned.
"Many have fallen!" Gayatri informed her companions. Gayatri noticed that someone's energy seemed to be dimming, perhaps unconscious or injured. As soon as possible, a team entered the Colosium floor and carried the body through the doors in the Colosium wall.
Of course, this was training to strengthen the senses and mental fortitude. Any warrior who hadn't practiced mastering their senses in the dark would surely fall. No matter how strong they were. When facing an enemy in the fog, darkness, or under magical interference, they would be defeated and trapped within the magical formation.
The numerous attackers swarmed swiftly, their energy seemingly moving very quickly. They only incapacitated and caused minor injuries to the test participants.
"Almost half of them have disappeared from the Colosseum floor, meaning they have failed this second test. They have been taken to another room."
Gayatri's explanation was well-understood by Aji; he understood even without possessing powerful abilities like Gayatri's eyes. However, he sensed the energy of everyone in the Colosseum beginning to diminish.
By sensing each person's energy source, Aji saw that the warriors assigned to incapacitate were indeed working well and had not misplaced the wrong person. Furthermore, Aji recognized the energy of the Assassins, as well as the energy of the participants attacking others.
They were infiltrators assigned to take down the warriors in the second test. This was what Gonan explained, as there were infiltrators among the participants, and they easily knocked others out. They would strike someone's back until they fainted or scent them with anesthetic powder.
Even without resistance, those exposed to the anesthetic powder would immediately become weak and unconscious. Now, Aji understood that this test was all about vigilance, and it was still a lighter test compared to the real battles: against criminals, pirates, forest bandits, and of course, the Dark Troops.
These criminals were all skilled in darkness, and this time, Gonan only deployed a mist of energy, allowing for close-up visibility. This meant that enemy movements could still be avoided with the quick instincts of a warrior.
If anyone couldn't dodge and survive this second test, then they certainly weren't worthy of being part of the Heavenly Troops facing the dark troops.
Duag!
An attacker was about to charge toward Aji from the darkness. However, Aji immediately stepped forward and struck the fully clothed attacker with his palm.
Aji took three steps forward and broke out of formation. The person hit woke up, feeling a slight pain in his chest. He immediately jumped toward the wall door of the Colosium.
Fierce fighting ensued. Aji could sense that some of the test participants were exhausted and exhausted from resisting the attacks of the man who had covered his head, revealing only his eyes, like a ninja.
To make matters worse, the surprise attack came from another participant who had been infiltrated to take them down. Those without great energy and sharp senses would be eliminated in this second test.
Aji sensed a flash of people coming and going. They surged forward and saw that some victims had fallen unconscious or were injured, and they quickly carried the bodies out of the testing area. One by one, the rumblings of the battle continued.
A contest of strength, energy, and weapons was taking place, and second by second, people were being rushed through the gaps in the walls of the Colosseum. In the second test, Aji was certain that only a few remained. Aji sensed the presence of people on the Colosseum floor; more than three-quarters of the people had disappeared. This meant they had fallen and were no longer able to survive.
