Legend of the Lightning Strike
29. Choosing a Hallway to Enter
Barsha passed Chief Gonan on her left and Chief Yarko on her right. Both knew Barsha well and saluted her, prompting her to enter the large Dompai door.
Seeing Barsha continue to advance toward the Dompai door, the Dompai door opened, and the magnificently carved doors swung open automatically. The other Heavenly Troop participants followed suit, entering the Dompai door.
Alicia and the others also stepped forward. All participants followed Alicia's lead. Barsha had fully entered Dompai. Alicia passed the two leaders and was followed by the remaining 19 participants, including Aji. Lao and Gayatri signaled to each other to join them in entering Dompai, so they could support and protect each other.
Aji entered last. He waited for everyone to enter and then walked fully through the Dompai door.
Two meters after Aji entered the Dompai building, the door behind him closed automatically with magical power. Aji knew this. They were indeed going to be imprisoned in Dompai. And of course, Aji sensed that there would be a battle if mentality was indeed everyone's guiding principle.
Mentality, of course, is a fight against fear and war. Mentality is a self-resistance in the face of fear. If mentality meant fighting against one's own weaknesses, then there would certainly be an attack on them.
Aji sensed a different energy surrounding every corner of the vast Dompai. For some reason, Aji's body felt contaminated with a powerful energy. The resonance was felt in Aji's body and also in something within Dompai.
Never mind! Aji felt he would find the answer later when he found out what this third test entailed.
Aji was at the back of the Sky Troops participants. They continued walking. Barsha was at the front, and Alicia was also there. Everyone moved forward, deeper in. Aji remained behind, observing the situation throughout the Dompai.
When they first entered, they walked along a straight line, with walls on the right and left. The roof was tightly closed, and the room was 10 square meters wide. It turned out that Dompai had many doors from the very beginning. They entered from the center entrance, and all the entrances lined up in front of Dompai.
They continued walking. After 20 meters, they found another door. Above the door was a carving that had just been created with magic through the screen above the door. There was an inscription written in energy on the top of the door:
"Third test of the Heavenly Troops. Enter and reach the end of Dompai and exit through the door at the end of the room. By passing through the door at the end of Dompai, you have passed the third test!"
This warning was enough to make all 21 Heavenly Troops immediately prepare to fight with full force. They gripped their weapons tightly, ready to enter the door.
All the participants had reached the end of the long room. In front of the door, they all prepared to advance. They stared at each other for a moment, signaling to enter together. As Alicia's hand reached for the door, it opened automatically.
Drrrrrrttt! No!
The door shook and opened sideways. A vast space opened before them. For those who had entered Dompai before, it might not have been a surprise. However, Dompai had been renovated quite differently. Rooms were lined up in different directions, with five large paths, each resembling a wide street, and hallways with rooms of equal size.
These five paths were, of course, designated for the Sky Squad participants to choose from. The participants were ultimately confused by the five paths before them.
"We're splitting up, please choose your own teams!" That was Nagada's voice. Nagada felt compelled to speak so they could all quickly share their positions and each could quickly enter and choose the hallway they wanted to pass through.
"That's right, let's form teams according to the hallways. We'll divide into five groups," was Alicia's voice. She felt they should split up, as they had to reach the end of the Dompai door, and the hallways had already been provided for five. So, instinctively, they were asked to split into five teams.
Some people were still hesitant. If they were assigned an inexperienced team, it would be a disadvantage. Those who have a team with strong individuals are fortunate, of course. They'll certainly have an easier time passing this exam.
"Barsha, I hope you'll join my team," Nagada said, addressing Barsha, who was still calmly observing the situation.
"I'll choose my own team, Nagada. It's clear that we have to pass this exam together, isn't it?"
They were growing increasingly hesitant, having been stuck in front of the door for several minutes. Nagada himself had brought four people with him. They were Sanjo, Yara, Nanji, and Samuel.
Alicia was also surrounded by several other participants, including Midan, Domar, and Rosa. On the other hand, Arion and Astro were still alone. The rest were still unsure about what to do. Should they form a team or join an existing one?
Nora, the fattest-looking of the two, approached Aji, who was still silent. "So, what do you think, friend? Shall you form a team, and I'll join you?" Nora looked at Aji, who was still gathered with the other team members, including Barsha, Gayatri, and Lao.
"Let's not split up. It's best if everyone goes in one hallway," Aji said quietly to Nora and several others around him.
Nora was surprised, "One passageway, and we're ignoring four other passageways?"
Aji didn't answer; he looked at Nora and smiled. Nora didn't dare say anything else, silently awaiting the others' decision.
"Aji is right," Lao chimed in this time. "There's no indication that we have to separate ourselves in Dompai. Ultimately, we'll pass if we reach the door at the end and exit Dompai. If we unite, we'll be stronger in facing this test."
Lao's words were then heard by the other participants. There was some truth to Lao's words; wouldn't a united group make them stronger in their fight against anything in this test?
"What if there's a right passageway and a wrong passageway?" Astro tried to speculate. "Wrong and right passageways," meaning the wrong passageway would be the one that, if entered, would fail. And the right passageway would be the one that would allow participants to pass.
Astro's words were also heard by the other participants. They grew increasingly hesitant, still stuck in front of the passageways. Anything could happen, and that was what each participant was thinking. The presence of the five tunnels made them unsure about what to do next to get through the tunnels. Should they split up with their respective teams, or unite and enter one tunnel instead?
"Let's do this," Barsha observed, watching many of the participants whispering to their teammates. That wouldn't solve the problem.
"Let's take the middle path. If anyone wants to separate, please do. However, those who want to be together, please enter the same tunnel," Barsha's voice made the participants feel there was some truth in it. Let everyone choose their beliefs.
The next question: how would they choose the right tunnel to enter? The team was still divided into four groups: one group was Nagada, one was Alicia, and the other was Arion. The rest had yet to decide.
Time had passed, and they felt an energy coming. Right in front of them, above the five tunnels, a carved energy inscription appeared. Could it be one of the examiners delivering a message?
"I'm Grandpa Nurin. We're hereby changing the course of the third test. Because you've been taking too long to enter the tunnel, we've decided to limit this third test to just three hours. In the next three hours, anyone who doesn't reach the back door and open it will be deemed a failure in the Heavenly Troops. That's it!"
A sudden message from Grandpa Nurin. This meant the test had changed from no time limit to just three hours. If they continued to hesitate in choosing the tunnel ahead, they would run out of time.
"What should we do now, Lao?" Nora asked Lao about their plans.
Lao smiled at Nora, "I'll always be with my friends. After all, we'll be Heavenly Troops and have to work together, right? So, let's all be together in the same tunnel."
Lao's explanation gave Nora no more hesitation. Indeed, together we are stronger, like a group. More profoundly, if you think about it, the test in each corridor could be the same. If we enter together, the test will be easier. That's Nora's understanding now.
"I don't have much time, I'm going in, and anyone who wants to be with me is welcome to follow me!" was Barsha's voice. She stepped forward, approaching the corridors. Barsha no longer cared what others thought of the corridors. Time was ticking, and it was better to face the test than to remain silent.
Barsha was about to enter the corridor, but she wasn't sure which of the five corridors to enter.
"Barsha, choose the middle corridor," seeing Barsha's confusion, Gayatri suggested, "I'll follow you in!"
Barsha turned to Gayatri and smiled, "Thank you, Gayatri."
Without hesitation, Barsha entered the middle corridor, and Gayatri was about to follow.
"What do you see, Gayatri?" Lao's voice echoed, as several others heard.
"All the corridors are the same. It seems they're all the same," Gayatri's words finally convinced Lao, and he nodded to his sister. Gayatri entered, and Lao did the same.
All the participants were lost in thought as they remembered the ticking time. There was nothing else to think about. Alicia stepped forward, with two people following her. Without further ado, Alicia and the two entered the center corridor.
Everyone was finally undecided about their choice. They stepped forward, and instead of thinking too much, they all entered the center corridor.
Aji smiled, and Nora followed him, the last to enter. Everyone entered the center corridor.
From a distance, Grandpa Nurin could see this. He smiled, sensing that they were all entering the same corridor. "This will be interesting!"
