Naura's Tears
24. Between Adam and Syarif (2)
The sky cleared again, the clouds parted slightly, and the sunlight returned to illuminate the world, shining on every part that was unprotected and unblocked.
"Actually, Adam... I already know what happened to you. You just need time to wake up," Syarif also exhaled slowly, "I know you very well. If you have a will, you will pursue it even to the point of death. Hm..." Syarif smiled slightly. He had known Adam since they were little.
"You will wake up in time, I know that. You can't be forced, you can't be harshly advised. You will wake up in time; it just takes time. Your mother and I are sure of that. That's why we've only been helping you all this time; we've just been waiting for you to wake from your long sleep.
Hufff... you're so mean, Adam. Can't you be sick, not because of love? You're the strangest person in the world. Other people get sick because of health problems or accidents. But you're sick because of love. You're truly a bad person, Adam."
"Ha... ha... ha..." Adam burst out laughing at his friend's joke, but in his heart, he agreed. He was too weak to recover from the powerlessness of love.
"Okay, Syarif, I give up now. You've been my best friend for a long time, and everything you said is true. Now let's talk about your wedding day with Aisyah. Whatever you need, I'll be at the forefront of your wedding."
"Why are you changing the subject and scapegoating me again, Adam?" Syarif couldn't stand it. He'd just been talking about Adam, and now he's turning the topic back to his wedding.
"That's not it, Syarif, your wedding is important. Once I'm well, don't delay any longer. I'll be your wedding witness," Adam patted his friend's shoulder. Syarif just shook his head slowly.
"You idiot, Adam! Okay then. I'll take care of it tomorrow, and you have to promise to get well soon and be my wedding witness," Syarif smiled, challenging Adam now.
Adam placed his right hand on his right upper forehead, like a soldier's salute. "Yes, Commander, I will."
Their crisp laughter rang out again. Their laughter accompanied the gentle breeze on Lake Kenanga. As if there had never been any sorrow, they were now laughing together.
"Oh, Adam, now you've woken up from your slumber. Write a beautiful poem. I haven't heard my poet so stylish in a long time."
Adam smiled slightly. Syarif still remembered how he often sang poetry. Ah! Sure enough, he always forced Syarif to listen to him recite poetry. Back at the Islamic boarding school, Syarif even gave up, getting bored and refusing to listen.
Now, he wanted to hear it again from Adam. Of course, Syarif was only joking, "Are you teasing me again, Syarif? Don't you like hearing me chatter all the time, Syarif?"
"Oh! Never mind, I'm tired of hearing it. But this time I want to hear it once before I get married. Then, I won't listen to your poetry again because I'll always be with my future wife."
"Ah, you really are Rif. Okay... wait a moment until a breeze blows over me. Usually, inspiration comes when I'm at one with nature."
"See? Really, you've returned to your old life. You're already at one with nature before anything. Hm..."
Their chuckles met again, a gentle breeze accompanying the two old friends, friends who were inseparable even by death.
Adam stood gazing at the clear lake, the breeze caressing his face and skin. Just like before, he would now babble so others could hear his beautiful song. Unlike before, when Syarif didn't want to hear it, now he wanted to hear it. Perhaps that was because he missed Adam.
The tickling water is not as beautiful as your light
Ripe fruit and sparkling gold
Nothing compares to your beautiful face
If all the roses and diamonds were gathered in my grasp
I refuse, and want your smile more
Your smile is enough
But..., what can I do, now your smile has been replaced by thorns
Your beautiful flower is enough for me to look at
And you stab me even though I praise your beauty
Over there in the west, there's a frightening pine tree
But it's ready to provide shade
Patience..., with waiting, with sincere love
I misjudged
I thought flowers were beautiful, but they pierce
I misjudged
I thought pine trees were full of danger, but they protect me...
A gentle breeze brushed against Adam's skin. Syarif understood the meaning of Adam's poem. In the past, he hadn't understood Adam's poems because he didn't want to listen. Now, after absorbing them, the words were indeed beautiful, and they also had a deep meaning, as Adam realized that beauty doesn't necessarily bring peace. Only sincerity can calm.
They both fell silent, Adam still standing, letting the breeze fan him, and Syarif still sitting, gazing at the lake.
"Beautiful poetry, Adam," came a soft voice from behind them, none other than Diandra's.
Adam and Syarif were a little surprised. Since when was Diandra behind them? Why hadn't they noticed?
"Miss, how long have you been there?" Syarif turned toward the voice, a beautiful woman with shoulder-length hair that was gently caressing the breeze. Her face was clean and clear, like the clarity of lake water.
"I've been here long enough, at least I've listened to all of Adam's poems," Diandra's smile widened again.
The smile was sweet, and Adam couldn't help but be amazed by Diandra. What a face, untouched by anything, so pure.
"Sorry, Diandra, you have to listen to this random poem I wrote. At least, forget about that," Adam was a little nervous, but he quickly covered it up. Before he knew it, that woman had simply appeared in his life. Adam understood that Diandra accompanied him every Sunday in his solitude as he gazed at the lake and stared at something that wasn't there.
For some reason, Adam's heart still clung to the memory of Naura. Perhaps it was his first love, or perhaps even his eternal love. Even now, Adam still couldn't forget Naura's face and how he still longed to see her, even if only to talk.
"You're always like that, Adam. Your poetry is beautiful, but sometimes I just don't want to hear it," Syarif chimed in, not wanting any silence between them. He had to create a conducive atmosphere and let go of what had happened before. Everything had to start fresh with new enthusiasm, because time was ticking.
"Aunt Jamilah, where's Miss Diandra?" Syarif asked Diandra again.
"Oh... Aunt Jamilah is at home helping Mrs. Halimah. Mr. Fandi is at the hardware store, and I came straight here to see Adam."
Again, Diandra's gaze fell on Adam. Adam looked down for a moment and shifted his gaze toward Lake Kenanga.
"Okay then, I'll go see Mr. Fandi. There's a lot to do and monitor at your hardware store, Adam. You must know that it's the store we built for you. You're here to chat."
"Wait, Syarif!" Something seemed to be bothering Adam. "You manage the shop; the profits will be for you and your family. I can find another business because I'm not suited to managing that hardware store."
Syarif was puzzled. "But Adam, I spent around 5 billion rupiah on that business; it's all your money. I can't just accept it, because Mrs. Halimah entrusted me with managing and developing your business and your future needs."
Adam then stood up. "Okay, let's do this. Let's share the profits. You get 80 percent of the profits, and I only get 20 percent."
"Isn't that..."
"It's okay, Syarif," Adam immediately interrupted Syarif. "Think of it as a gift for your wedding. You have to work and earn money so Aisyah can be calm and happy."
Syarif was speechless. "Okay then, thank you very much, buddy."
Syarif said goodbye to Adam and Diandra. He got on his motorcycle and left Adam and Naura standing there, watching him leave.
"So... Syarif is getting married soon?"
Her beautiful eyes stared at Adam, and Adam stared at Diandra's face. A gentle breeze brushed their gazes, and the sky bore witness to the future of their love story. Because fate can change like lightning, and love can be found with perseverance or lost in the blink of an eye. No one knows the secrets of the heart, except the One who created it.
