Naura's Tears

25. I Want to Be Here

Still at Lake Kenanga, Adam is beginning to understand his true identity and is starting to rise. He is accompanied by Diandra, who always accompanies him when he's in the village where Adam lives.

"So what are you going to do next, Adam?" Diandra asked Adam calmly. She stood and crouched in front of the roses growing on the edge of the lake.

"You are a gift from God to our family, Diandra. I don't know how we can repay you. You've been with me until I could stand up straight again. I don't know what you're thinking, but you have your own future. As for me, I'll focus on healing myself first."

It's been three months since Diandra's leg and eye healed, and this is the first time she's been able to speak openly with Adam. Usually, Adam would just nod and let her talk alone. Diandra felt at ease even though she was ignored and talked to herself while Adam was still ill. Somewhat surprised by Adam's explanation, Diandra looked back at him, "So... is our relationship going to end just like that, Adam? When I'm healed, and you're healed too. Does that mean everything is over? We'll each live our own lives?" There was bitterness in Diandra's words.

"I don't know where my path will take me, Diandra. You're rich; you can have anything. You're beautiful, and your path will surely shine bright like the sun. However, I'm someone who has just emerged from the darkness. I want to understand the meaning of life itself. I've been down for too long; I don't know how I'll face tomorrow."

The breeze brushed against their faces again, the gusts ruffling their hair.

"But... how..." Diandra trailed off, and just as she was about to continue, Adam interrupted her.

"You don't have to be stuck and imprisoned by your own oath. An oath is an oath, but when it leads to self-harm, you can break it. You have a bright future; don't be imprisoned because of me, Diandra."

Adam's words seemed to stab Diandra in the heart. Adam had always been very aware of the conditions around him, and he was simply someone who couldn't get up.

"May I know what you want after you wake up from all this?" Diandra continued to pursue the question: what would Adam actually do after he recovered? Would he work, or take care of something big, or would he serve the community? Diandra was still very curious.

Adam paused for a moment, deep in thought. Indeed, he himself was still blank about how his life would continue. However, at least he had a mother and a good friend, Syarif. As for Naura herself... Adam was trying to forget her as far as possible. Hopefully, in the future, he could forget Naura and live a normal life like everyone else.

"Okay... I want to be here," for some reason, that was the only thing that came to Adam's mind. It was as if his soul wanted to remain at Lake Kenanga. That was all he was thinking at the moment.

"What do you mean, stay here?" Diandra pursued Adam's statement, still confused by his words.

"I don't know... but I want to be here. I feel comfortable here, and I want to build something here so I can see the lake every day."

The breeze fanned them again. Diandra wondered if Adam hadn't forgotten Naura. Was his love so deep that he wanted to be with her memories for the rest of his life?

"Can you really not live without Naura's shadow?" Diandra's question pierced Adam's heart, a very sensitive question for someone who loves someone who has been abandoned.

"It's not like that," Adam stood up and walked over to Lake Kenanga. He crouched down and scooped up some water with one hand. He lifted it, and droplets of water fell from between his fingers.

"I want to build a civilization here. I want to establish a business so this lake can thrive, and many people can enjoy its beauty. Even without Naura and Adam. This lake will be loved by many, with or without Adam and Naura."

As he said this, Adam looked at Diandra's face. A gentle breeze brushed across their gazes. Occasionally, a leaf fell, separating their gaze.

Diandra was captivated by Adam's explanation, a strange view, and a desire that ordinary people would consider foolish. After all, life is about working, earning money, enjoying it, and having it all.

Adam was indeed different. He was a true poet. That was what immediately occurred to Diandra. She had been learning how to understand people since recovering from her blindness and paralysis. She had studied human psychology so she could communicate with others more quickly, as she had been confined to her home and family due to her condition at the time.

"So... what are you going to build when you're healed here?"

Adam thought again, "I don't know... I haven't thought about building anything big yet. I've just been thinking about creating some kind of tourist attraction here so people will be attracted to come and enjoy the sunset here."

Diandra already knew what Adam was thinking. He thought hard, especially since his parents were no ordinary businessmen. They had become kings in the capital, with four large companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange. All kinds of businesses and how to manage them were a daily occurrence.

"How about we work together? We'll build a center for everything here. We'll discuss the plans later. So, we'll be business partners here."

Adam paused for a moment, feeling a little uncertain. He was actually attracted to Diandra; such a perfect woman would be impossible for him to refuse. However, he didn't want Diandra to do everything for him because of a vow.

Besides, Adam was quite happy with his mother. He didn't have anyone else; being with her was enough for him. Now, he had woken up and was about to start over. Love was a matter for later, and he didn't think much of it; Adam was already grateful for what God had given him.

"So... are we business partners?" Adam asked Diandra.

"Right! We're going to build a big business here."

"Okay, but we'll divide the technical aspects and everything proportionally. I don't want you to do this out of reciprocity; everything has to be professional."

Diandra smiled, "Of course, everything will be fair."

Once again, Diandra wanted to see how Adam would move after his recovery. She also felt comfortable with him and at Lake Kenanga.

Furthermore, Diandra was curious about Adam and wanted to get to know him better. It seemed like love had already entered her heart.
