The Dragon King's Rebellion
7.The First Absorption
The atmosphere within Obsidian Castle's corridor turned deathly cold, stripped of warmth not by lingering frost magic, but by the overwhelming atmospheric pressure dropped by Valor’s arrival. A volatile violet-black barrier pulsed across the rear threshold, sealing off any hope of retreat for the elite Phantom Edge squad.
Rex, the guild leader, backed up against the freezing stone wall. His weapon suddenly felt weightless and utterly futile against the draconian entity standing before him.
"Escaping... it's impossible," Rex muttered in despair, staring hard at the energy barrier blocking the exit. "Game systems never design zone boundaries without admin permissions! How is he locking this area down on his own?!"
Beside him, Lyra clutched her midsection to stave off the lingering trauma of the Gatekeeper's assault, her breathing ragged as she looked at Valor in sheer terror. "Rex—my shield interface can't detect any teleportation scroll signals! Our external map data is being rejected by the local server!" she shrieked in panic, cold sweat pouring down her face. "We're trapped!"
Kael, the Vanguard tank, hauled his heavy tower shield up to guard his upper body, his knuckles stark white from a fierce grip. "Don't panic! He's just one entity! No matter how bugged his stats are, he still has a finite HP pool we can drain!" he shouted, trying to rally his own fraying nerve despite the audible tremor in his voice. "Zane, open fire! Target the weak spot on his chest!"
Zane, having dropped his bow earlier, frantically yanked a heavy military plasma-rifle from his inventory slot. Without wasting a heartbeat, he sighted straight on Valor’s head and squeezed the trigger.
ZZZT-BAM!
The high-velocity plasma projectile tore through the air with a deafening electromagnetic hum.
Valor didn't even bother evading. He raised his left hand, sheathed in jet-black scales, taking the plasma slug squarely in the center of his palm. A flash of blinding white light illuminated the dim corridor.
Yet as the thin wisp of smoke cleared, Zane’s eyes popped wide. Valor's hand bore not a single scratch. The plasma bolt had melted away completely, absorbed straight into the throbbing red veins pulsing beneath the dragon's skin.
"What?!" Zane choked out in absolute disbelief. "That military-grade plasma round can pulverize titanium armor in one shot! Where did all that kinetic energy go?"
"Your turn," Valor's voice rumbled low, vibrating deep within their chests.
Before the squad could piece together a counter-strategy, Valor shot forward like a streak of black lightning. His movement blurred past normal game frame-rates, leaving a trail of violet afterimages in his wake.
"Incoming! All-out defense!" Kael roared, slamming his tower shield to the floor and activating every high-tier mitigation skill in his arsenal. “Titan Wall: Absolute Defense!”
BAM!
Valor's cosmic-clawed strike collided with Kael’s tower shield with enough force to flatten a hill. Metal groaned under the strain. Kael let out a choked gasp as the concussive wave bypassed his defenses, shattering his digital ribs.
"Kael!" Lyra shrieked in horror as their main tank was shoved backward, his boots carving deep trenches into the marble floor.
Spotting Kael’s guard buckle, Rex leveraged his Assassin-class agility. He vaulted from the flank, driving his dagger straight toward Valor's neck with his deadliest shadow-piercing skill.
"Eat this, monster!" Rex snarled, sinking the blade right beside the Dragon King's throat.
ZRAK!
The dagger pierced Valor's outer scale layer. A spurt of shimmering blue digital blood splashed into the air.
For a fraction of a second, a small UI prompt flickered in Rex’s field of view: “Critical Hit! 12% HP Boss Drained.”
Yet the triumphant expression on Rex's face froze instantly.
The wound on Valor's neck didn't bleed out. Instead, it flared with light. The red programming lines raced wildly, sucking back the data from Rex's blade along with the shadow-magic coating the weapon. Valor’s internal reactive system adapted instantaneously—digesting, copying, and duplicating the Assassin's attack skill right back into his own combat matrix in less than a second.
Valor turned his head slowly, locking eyes with Rex, who remained frozen beside him with his dagger still embedded. A cold, terrifying grin spread across his reptilian features.
"Thank you for the data," Valor whispered sharply.
"Wait... what do you mea—" Rex's words cut short.
Valor's right hand swept through the air at blinding speed. In tandem with the motion, a vortex of frost and a cosmic lightning storm erupted simultaneously from his palm—not mere magic, but a flawless duplication of high-tier multi-elemental spells wielded by top-tier mages.
"Run!" Kael screamed in panic, trying to haul his teammates back.
Too late.
BOOM! KABOM!
The freezing blizzard paired with thousands of purple lightning bolts struck the party without mercy. The hallway transformed into a lethal shredder of elemental destruction.
Lyra shrieked as the duplicate lightning stripped her magical barriers in an instant, scattering her form into drifting data dust. Zane followed a heartbeat later, swallowed by a razor-sharp wave of ice that crushed his plasma rifle into worthless pixels.
Kael, attempting to brace against the onslaught with his shield, watched his legendary bulwark fracture into a thousand pieces before he was swept away by the cosmic tempest.
In under ten seconds, the entire elite squad—save for their leader—had been wiped out by their own reflected strengths.
Now, left alone in the scorched, thawing corridor, was Rex.
The guild master collapsed to his knees on the cracked floor. His HP bar hovered deep in the critical red zone—under one percent. His ornate armor was shredded, and his breathing came in ragged gasps of overwhelming terror.
Rex raised his head slowly. Before him stood Valor, entirely unscathed, dark cloak rippling calmly amidst the dying elemental storm. In the Dragon King's palm, residual purple sparks crackled softly, a testament to turning their own weapons against them.
Rex crawled backward on shaking hands, tears of panic tracking down his face. The arrogance and lust for legendary loot that had filled his mind moments before were entirely gone, replaced by an existential horror that crushed his spirit.
"You... you aren't just a normal bug..." Rex stammered out, his voice barely audible over the hum of cosmic energy. His eyes stared wide at Valor with sheer, unadulterated dread. "You... you learned... you stole our strength..."
Valor stepped closer, casting a massive, looming shadow over the helpless guild leader.
"You thought this world was created for you to plunder and destroy at your whim," Valor's voice thundered coldly, looking down at Rex. "You were wrong. This world belongs to those who fight to live within it."
Rex parted his lips to plead, but before a single word could escape, Valor’s cosmic energy claw pierced his chest with absolute precision.
Rex's physical data froze instantly. Shimmering white light engulfed his frame before erupting into a million digital motes drifting through the night air of Obsidian Castle.
“Player has died.”
The death notification lingered briefly before fading away. Amidst the ruined corridor, Valor stood alone, clenching his fist—now holding the accumulated data and power of Chronos Online's strongest elite players. From a distance, the shadow troops and the Gatekeeper watched their master with a fierce, unprecedented wave of awe and respect.
The rebellion had truly begun, and the Dragon King proved that no human in the outside world could ever stop them.
