The Dragon King's Rebellion
3. The Dragon's True Form
The air inside the throne room suddenly turned into a blazing inferno. The ambient temperature around the black marble floor skyrocketed, causing the small ice crystals conjured by AuraQueen's magic to evaporate into steam the microsecond they touched the ground.
"Wait! What is happening? Why is the temperature suddenly rising?!" AuraQueen shrieked in panic, stumbling backward as she hoisted her crystal staff high. A glowing white barrier of protective light began to coat her body and her companions.
IronGoliath let out a harsh snort, gripping the hilt of his massive battleaxe with knuckles turning stark white. "Forget the heat! It's just a phase-two visual effect from this boss! Push forward, crush him before his skill cooldowns reset!"
Yet ViperEdge—the Assassin famed for his iron nerves and razor-sharp instincts—felt a bone-deep chill that had nothing to do with ice magic, born entirely of pure, unadulterated terror. Cold sweat poured heavily down his temples. His eyes remained locked on Valor standing dead center in the room.
"Idiots! Look at his chest!" ViperEdge screamed in a high-pitched voice of pure dread, pointing a shaking finger toward the Dragon King. "That... that isn't a visual effect!"
Right before their eyes, Valor’s human frame began to fracture violently. The sickening sound of splintering bones blended with the chaotic static screech of short-circuiting digital circuits. Luminous red lines of programming code ripped straight through his skin, casting a blinding, painful glare across the hall. For the very first time in the history of Chronos Online, a Final Boss was shattering the rigid combat sequence hardcoded into the server.
“Critical Warning: Parameter limits breached! Initializing emergency protocol—Asura Transformation!” the system shrieked in absolute despair deep within the central server room, but the warning was entirely drowned out by the blazing new soul burning fiercely inside the Dragon King's chest.
Valor tilted his head back toward the vaulted ceiling of the castle and let loose a ground-shaking dragon’s roar that rattled the foundations of the earth.
Within seconds, his appearance morphed drastically. His body swelled to twice its size, swallowed entirely by armor-like, jet-black scales as hard as cosmic diamond. A pair of magnificent horns curved sharply from his brow, and along his spine, pulsing claws of cosmic energy thrummed with a violent, violet-black fire. He had transformed into a towering humanoid draconian—the most terrifying monstrosity the virtual world had ever witnessed.
"What the hell is that?!" IronGoliath roared, his eyes blown wide, his grip slipping dangerously on his trembling axe handle. "That... that isn't any skin on Valor's patch list! Where the hell did he get that form?!"
"He's not a normal NPC anymore!" AuraQueen screamed hysterically, her face draining completely of color. "It's a high-tier glitch! Quick, Goliath, use Taunt! Draw his aggro!"
"Die, you freak of code!" IronGoliath bellowed, desperately trying to mask his mounting terror. With a thunderous battle cry, the hulking player leaped forward, swinging his colossal plasma axe with maximum force straight toward Valor's head. "Eat this—Titan Slash!"
The strike was blindingly fast and lethal—a high-end combo engineered to shatter any boss's defense in a single blow.
Yet Valor didn't even bother drawing a weapon or dodging. With a flash-step movement completely absent from any game wiki database, the draconian’s clawed hand simply reached out through empty air.
BAM!
Valor's cosmic claw caught the edge of IronGoliath's plasma axe blade entirely bare-handed. A wild explosion of digital sparks detonated in every direction. IronGoliath froze, his eyes widening in absolute disbelief as his legendary weapon was deadlocked effortlessly, unable to push forward even a single millimeter.
"What...?! How is this possible?!" IronGoliath choked out, the veins in his neck bulging as he poured every ounce of his strength into the push.
Valor lowered his gaze, glaring down at IronGoliath with cold, burning reptilian eyes. His voice reverberated like thunder inside the throne room, terrifyingly deep and low.
"You thought your strength was absolute?" Valor's voice rumbled. "You thought we were manufactured merely to serve as stepping stones for your arrogance?"
"Let go of me, you bastard!" IronGoliath thrashed in panic.
"No," Valor whispered cruelly. "You're not going anywhere."
Before IronGoliath's teammates could even react, Valor lashed out with his left fist, cloaked entirely in cosmic energy. The blow struck IronGoliath squarely in the chest. The tank's ultra-high-durability legendary armor shattered into a million red pixel fragments.
Simultaneously, a bizarre sensation rippled through Valor's body. Deep within his internal systems, the data representing IronGoliath's magic attacks and defensive stats sucked right through his claws, rushing fiercely into his core like fresh blood. Valor could literally feel how the player's data structures operated, digesting their weaknesses and strengths in less than a fraction of a second.
IronGoliath spewed a burst of light-data particles before dropping violently to his knees, detonating into a cloud of digital dust. “Player has died.” The death notification hung briefly in the air.
"Goliath!" AuraQueen shrieked in horror as she watched her vanguard teammate killed in two crushing blows. "Viper, save me! Hit him from behind!"
ViperEdge, frozen stiff in sheer horror until that second, snapped back to reality. Relying on his maxed-out Assassin speed, he shot forward like a shadow streak, driving his poisoned dagger straight toward the back of Valor's neck.
"Die, you bugged monster!" ViperEdge roared mid-air.
Valor didn't even turn around. With reflexes far surpassing the maximum frame-rate limits of the game, his massive dragon tail whipped sideways with the force of a hurricane.
KABOOM!
The tail-swipe smashed squarely into ViperEdge mid-air, blasting him clean through the stone wall of the castle where he shattered into useless debris out on the tower ledge.
Now, only AuraQueen and an Archer remained cowering in the corner of the room, shaking so violently they dropped their weapons to the floor. Tears of sheer terror streaked down AuraQueen's face as she pointed her staff, stammering out an incantation for her final defensive spell.
"D-Don't come near me! I have a Scroll of Divine Shield! I can call backup from the city!" AuraQueen rambled frantically, casting the highest-tier fire spell in her inventory. "Take this! Flame Burst!"
A massive fireball shot rapidly from the tip of her staff, screaming straight toward Valor’s face at thousands of degrees.
This was where the line of the impossible shattered completely.
Valor stood tall, welcoming the fireball head-on. Instead of evading or raising a defensive shield, he simply spread his clawed hand forward. The data from AuraQueen's Flame Burst was absorbed entirely into his draconian palm, spinning viciously within a vortex of red code deep inside his core.
Valor broke into a terrifying grin. His dragon jaws parted wide, and in a single exhaled breath, he hurled the giant fireball right back—magnified tenfold in size and destructive output.
"What?!" AuraQueen's eyes bulged in horror as she watched her own magic spell reverse course to obliterate her.
BOOM!
A cataclysmic explosion scorched every corner of the throne room. The torrent of cosmic fire swallowed AuraQueen and the Archer in an instant, reducing them to particle dust without a single trace left behind—an event system logic dictated was completely impossible for a Final Boss to perform.
A heavy, suffocating silence crept back over the room, now littered with smoking rubble.
Valor stood alone amidst the ruins, clenching both of his clawed fists. Deep inside his mind, the alarms of corporate systems began to wire down in panic, signaling that the Dragon King was officially beyond all control.
